On Uber platform Drivers have to rate passenger right away when ending the trip, so no way for the driver to know if passenger tipped or will tip, thus no ral way to penalize passneger for not tipping. On Lyft passenger can be rated up to 24 hours after the trip. If passnger did not tip on a long ride I usually go in and rate them 4 stars or less if they did something crazy like brough a child and did not bother buckling them in or bit their nails and left clippings on my floor

Also, many students from Rider University go home on Fridays, so if you hang out by campus right off 295 you will most likley be shuttling them to Hamilton Train Station and that is not a bad ride on the highway,
even if you have to run right back to the university to grab more.
After Rider runs dry up, after your last drop off at Hamilton, head over to Love's Travel Stop in Bordentown, Friday is when long distance truck drivers go there (because of new regulations where they can only drive so many hours), park their rigs and often need rides home which could be miles away, and Bordentown in General has some riders. Hope this helps for Friday planning

on Lyft there is a Scheduled Ride section (sort of like a job board) it displays avaialble scheduled rides probably with pickup somewhere within 10 mile radius of where you are at the moment of looking at that screen. On this screen you will see pickup and drop off locations and approximate fare, so that is an instance where drivers can see destination :) and of course in Destination filter mode, while you can't see destination exactly you do have an idea of general direction since ou are the one who entered the destination filter :)

I decided to read up on this a bit.
So it looks like The FCC is aware of such problems and even set up a "Jammer Tip Line" for people to let the bureau know about people who may be selling or using a jammers.
Found here:
https://www.fcc.gov/general/jammer-enforcement
There is an app to help identify if a jammer is being used, here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microcadsystems.serge.jammerdetector&hl=en_US
It appears to only work on Android
A quick search on line also revealed that there are Jammer detectors out there, such as on this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmXsKCEeP4o
Nipping in the ass a few of the assholes using them and reporting to FCC will hopefully help.

When requesting pool one has to specify number of riders, driver confirms that at pick up on the screen. This enables the system to plan as to whether driver can pick up another couple or only a single passenger.
I had the happen to me. Rider requested pool for 1, but there were two of them at pick up.
I tried changing to two (system told me to make the rider add the second passenger (their friend)
it is $0.11 more for their friend, so I see why rider stated 1 initially vs. 2. (a lot of money - understandable), eventually she changed to 2, and almost immediately got an add-on passenger for a couple, since system figured I should have 2 more seats available. But for example if the same cheap passenger #1 requested pool for 2 but showed up with 3, and I did not force her to change, my next stop for the couple would not enable me to pick them up. SO it is driver's responsibility to ensure number of riders getting in matches the number Uber was told will get in the car. the screen to change number of riders is right in front during pick up.
Occasionally I may have 2 separate passengers already in the car, pool up to my next pool pick up, to find party of 4 who requested a pool, I roll down window and tell them basically I can't fit 10 pounds of passengers into my 5 pound car. I also ask them if they selected pool? knowing already they did and tried to cheat system. I ask them how many passengers they put in during request? (knowing they put in for 2 as system wuld not even let you pool as an option if you have 4 passengers in the single party. (because it would no longe be a pool if you r party of 4 took up all seats) of course the passenger claims they put in 2. Anyway I ask them to cancel, they do not want to cancel because they do not want to get hit with $3.75.
The point for me talking to them is not only to educate them, but to also milk time, so if they do not want to cancel themselves, by time I am done talking to them 2 minutes are up and I just hit NO SHOW and cancell myself, so I can collect my fee. Last thing I need is to drive to them for 5-10 minutes and not even get the NO SHOW fee, because the cheap asses were to cheap to book regular pool.
I do not do many pool rides anymore because of this hassle and dealing too much with cheap asses who request pool, do not tip (for most part), drag my ratings down (I bet the other two passengers in my car already would leave a lower rating because it too longer) and then cheapskates try to beat the system even further by trying to save $0.11 by not declaring all people in their party, find another driver :)
Oh yes all that on top of Uber paying drivers less per mile and minute for doing a pool ride vs. regular. So more work (more hassle) = less pay - makes total sense :)
So your mount inserts into a CD slot? as in you can no longer use CD player?
Post a pic of your mount if you can please
15% on a cost of the ride maybe too low if you factor in incentives passengers sometimes get on rides.
If 1 hour ride cost them $10.00, I would rather receive tips based on my formula of $1.00 per every 5 minutes in the car then the 15% which would be $1.50 for the whole ride.
Drove two millenial female passengers from EWR (Newark NJ airport) to Lawrenceville NJ - 62 mile ride, took 1 hour and 2 minutes to complete. While exiting one said to anohter - "I will just tip him through the app". We all know what that means (no tip to be expected). When she said that, I thought to myself "Yup and I will leave you 5 stars". Checked next day (no tip as expected), 4 stars from me. Luckily Lyft allows us to rate passengers within 24 hours after the ride:)
I created a small sign put in on the pack of center console so backseat passengers can see it: "Please Rate Your Trip/Ride in the App ;)"
Wil lsee if this actually generates more tips.
I do not want to put any sign specifically asking them to tip, but my rationale is by asking to rate the trip, they will see the tipping screen next (on Uber) and that may nudge them to throw a small bone my way :)
Hi, Yes I am in Philly area as well (more Lower Bucks than Philly), but tend to not like to work in Philly:) I prefer NJ eventhough they pay less per mile.
Narcan thing would be good for someone who does not mind administering it and is trained and has confidence and medical background to distinguish OD from some other emergency. I carry a voltmeter in my car and jumper cables, so I can easily help someone jump start a car, test their battery or alternator, because I am confident and have the training. Imagine another driver carrying jumping cables in trunk, but has no idea how to hook them up and fries all your electronics while trying to do the right thing by jumping your car. I feel the same way about carrying Narcan as I would panic and have no idea what to do other than calling 911.
Quoting my Automotive instructor: a $10,000 tool in a hands of an idiot, is a $10,000 tool in a hands of an idiot (that refers to me with Narcan) :)
Though I feel it would be a very rare occasion to find an OD passenger in my car, as they probably could not even figure out how to call Uber or Lyft, but if I was trained not only in administering Narcan but also had medical background so I do no tmistake an epilepcy with OD and feed the person narcan for a wrong condition causing them harm I would consider. At this point since I lack the medical background I would not feel comfortable carrying it.
Barf bags for Neshaminy Creek Brewery patrons - no problem :)
My job is right off Dunksferry Rd.
Yes, not a problem, just pack the dirty laundry in a way they do not fall out all over the truck
Absolutely OK, happens all the time, just load groceries into the trunk when driver arrives
Imagine in a hypothetical situation a driver who is neinther man or woman (Guess that driver is now out of work), perhaps there are drivers that identify with both sexes, pretty convenient. Anyway, I think it is a stupid idea to allow to select driver gender, what's next race?
Yesteray a ride request with 45 min + banner came through and I accepted it.
I like to do long rides when I have time. As I lifted my finger from the phone screen while accepting the request, I noticed with a corner of my eye the rider's rating 3.7 (Strange thing on Lyft is after accepting a request I can't find the rider's rating again, but on Uber it is visible)
I normally do not pick up anyone under 4.7, but here I was. I did not want to cancel, since it was a long ride and they do not come around too often.
I pull up, young lady enters the car and says, "Hello, Do you use Waze?", I happened to be a driver who uses Waze, but that peeked my curiosity.
Before I even put my car in drive, I was given a verbal instruction, that I could turn around here...., then turn there. Then silence (I guess Waze was guiding me right)
Half way through the ride I decided to ask the passenger (Out of curiosity) why she asked me about what GPS I use. Conversation was good, we talked about how Waze has all the wonderful features, etc. Then I asked her (keeping in mind her 3.7 rating) "What would you say if I told you I did not use Waze"? She proceeded to tell me that then she would be guiding me the entire route, as Waze has best real time traffic updates, etc. I told her "You must be one of those back seat drivers", she laughed. But that immediately answered my question about her rating. Who wants to be told every turn while on an hour long ride? :)
So passengers, please refrain from Back seat driving. I understand an occasional suggestion here and there, but breathing down driver's neck with turn by turn navigation will earn you a low rating resulting in loooong pick up times :)
Just like we (drivers) get numerous in app notifications as to service animals, one should be sent out to passenegers periodically about minimum age of riders (unacompanied kids under 18). I get many passengers who were not aware they (15 year olds in this case) could not be riding by themselves from home to practice, because parents are busy.
Using same medium I would make it a point to reminde riders to be respectfull of driver's car by not slamming doors, and exiting car on the curb side vs. into the traffic lanes.
As well as to rate drivers (I do not want to beat dead horse about tipping) but if a reminder only talks about rating the driver at the end of the trip perhaps they will get to the tipping screen too :)
It is designed to be driven part time
Even if Pool or Shared rides could be turned off in the app what difference does it really make when during ride request it displays what type of ride that is and you can just decline it?
Does anyone know if on a shared or pool ride (if a ride is going to be long) does it splash up a banner of 45 min plus? like it does on X and regular Lyft? If it did I would be more inclined to take a Shared ride as Lyft pays the same on those as it does on regular Lyft rides.
I was passing by the Newark Nj airport late at night heading home to PA with a destination filter on, and got a request from Lyft to grab someone at the airport (note: I was not sitting on the stage lot) probably I got the request because there were no drivers on the stage lot at 1:00am on Wednesday night. Typically you can't have destination filter set and be in airport ques at same time. The request was for a shared ride so I declined it as I had no idea how long the ride was going to be (though it was probably in the direction of my home). As soon as I declined it another ride request came from the airport but it was a regular Lyft ride and had a 45+ min banner so of course I took it and ended up driving a passenegr to Robbinsville NJ which was a 42 mile ride towards my house.
I also can't tell if Uber will spalsh a 45min plus ride even on Regular Uber X when destination filter is turned on
on Lyft there is a Scheduled Ride section (sort of like a job board) it displays avaialble scheduled rides probably with pickup somewhere within 10 mile radius of where you are at the moment of looking at that screen. On this screen you will see pickup and drop off locations and approximate fare, so that is an instance where drivers can see destination :) and of course in Destination filter mode, while you can't see destination exactly you do have an idea of general direction since ou are the one who entered the destination filter :)
Are you speaking of ETA (in miles) to get to the passenger being removed and only dispaying how long in minutes it will take you to get to the passenger?
I took a screenshot on Sunday of a Lyft ride request coming to me and it says 6 min away. Does not mention distance. On Uber ride requests it states the time and distance to the passenger.
I persoally do not care much if distance is shown or not, but am sure it is good to have that info.
Or are you saying you were given information as to how long the ride to the passenegr's drop off destiantion will be at time of pick up
As a part time driver I never relied on the surges too much, however I would be more willing to pick up a pool or X pasenger when a multipler was 1.9 or more, in the urban settings in hopes of it being a longer ride. Such pickups in center city, etc, usualy come with (stop signs, pot holes, red light cameras, traffic, etc.)
Now that the multiplier got changed to a set insignificant dollar value, I decline all rides coming from surging areas especially pools as making an extra $1.75 on a ride that may take me 30-40 minutes after all is said and done is just not worth my time. I rather be on a highway 70 miles per hour completing a 15+ mile ride and not be stuck on pothole ridden streets with traffic
Agree, worth reporting 100%
if one passes a permit and license test should also be able to understand some basic English. Claiming ignorance will not go far when breaking federal rules.
I am sure there are some idiot drivers out there, as giving a passenger anything lower than 4 is going to not ever match a rider and passeneger again.
There is absolutely no reason for an Uber driver to give a rating lower than 5 to a passeneger strictly basing it on an assumption the passenger is not going to tip (through app) if a cash tip was not given, as sometimes it may take a day or two for the tip through app to show up. That is of course if the passenger did not do something outside of that to actually deserve a lower rating.
On Uber a driver has to rate the passenger right away after the trip.
On Lyft platform I actually wait 24 hours to rate the passengers and will scan through all my rides over $10.00 earnings per trip to see if I got a tip.
If I did not get a tip on those rides, I rate passenger a 4. Cheaper rides I give everyone a 5 regardless if they tipped, unless the passenger did something obvious to deserve a lower rating (like making me wait for them over 5 minutes, etc), very rarely would I give out a 3 or below.
I tip drivers using a $1.00 for every 5 minutes of the ride, would be nice if passengers did the same :)
Eventually lower passenger ratings will result in passenger waiting longer to be picked up as drivers will take passengr rating into consideration when deciding whether to accept a ride request. i do not pick up anyone under 4.7
Hi
have mot had that issue last night but perhaps because I am registered in Philadelphia, perhaps they were testing something in NJ?
uber however failed to pay me for a PA turnpike trip so had to call them and tell toll amount
I had a few flukes where once I accepted a ride Waze said it would be like triple the time and distance to get there only to rcalculate quickly. Maybe in your example you were so close to the station that it basically assumed you knew you were around the corner, I will see how it performs today whrn I go out to drive
As a driver you can scoop up pre scheduled rides as soon as they appear on your phone, regardless when the pickup is set for
Some people get it and some don’t. The ones that don’t get it either never worked in service industry or just cheap asses.
I run my car through a $4.00 basic car wash once a week and always tip guys at end who dry the car out. Pulled up today got ready to run car through, noticed I had no cash at all, turned around and left, will come back tomorrow when I can tip them ;) just does not feel right to not tip someone who sweats all day drying cars.
