Uber Reveals Massive Data Breach - Over a Year Later!

Last week, Uber revealed a massive data breach that happened last October. Uber hid the breach from both customers and drivers, and paid the hackers $100,000 to keep quiet.

In October 2016, hackers had access to data on 50 million Uber riders, and 7 million drivers. Uber stated that the information taken from customers included names, email addresses, and phone numbers. As for the drivers, around 600,000 U.S. driver’s license numbers were taken, though no social security numbers or credit card information was compromised.

Lyft Expands Internationally to Toronto

Big news in the rideshare industry this week, and this time, it’s all about Lyft. Lyft announced they will be expanding their operations internationally, entering into the Canadian ridesharing market.

Lyft will begin operating in Toronto starting in December of this year, making the city the first that Lyft will operate outside of the United States. Previously Lyft operated in international markets solely through partnerships with existing rideshare companies present in the market. Flying cars?! Yes, you heard that right. Uber announced their latest project “Elevate”, their aerial rideshare service. This week Uber executives announced a third city where they will be testing these plane-helicopter hybrid, and by 2020, they hope to be testing in Los Angeles, Dallas-Fort Worth and Dubai.
