I feel lucky that I have only had lost one acquaintance to opioids. He struggled mightily with it for over a decade and got clean a number of times but just could not hang on. He finally succumbed last year due to fentanyl overdose. I find it hard to lay blame on him, knowing everything I do about his situation. He really tried, again and again. I can't even blame him for getting addicted as it all started with an opioid prescription from his doctor after a sports injury. Those legally prescribed drugs led him and his family into a years long nightmare that finally ended with his sad, pointless death on the floor of his parents' bathroom. He left a wife and two young kids behind.
Drug companies pushed these drugs, deliberately downplaying the addictive qualities of them. I find it hard not to blame them squarely for this problem. Once these drugs get a hold of you they don't let go, ever, and these companies knew it all along.
It's just a horrible situation all around. A true crisis. If carrying narcan will help me save one person, I probably should just do it. Sure wish I didn't have to pay for it though.
I should. I hate that we have to deal with this but I guess it is a fact of life in 2018 and I don’t want anyone dying in my car.
Interesting that they do promotions like this instead of just jacking up the surge... since this costs them money, and surge effectively does the same thing but makes them money. I expect worse from Uber...
No. How is this going to help me get more rides? And don't bring up the tipping thing. People aren't going to suddenly decide to tip me because i have mickey mouse in my car. If anything it will discourage people from tipping...
Wait, so these cops came into a restaurant where you were eating, took your bouquet of flowers, and rifled through it looking for this guy's license? While you were sitting there trying to eat?
Seriously. Those parents are insane.
Shame on those parents. Use your heads.
I would bet it's true for cab drivers. Rideshare drivers? Ah nope. Uber screwed that up with their original "no tipping" policy and now we all pay for it.
"Hey can you check out this thing on my back? is that a rash?"
Just be respectful, you know? Some riders really seem to take joy in looking down on drivers. Driving can be a grind and that can make it miserable.
if I had money to throw around... no. I'm not dumb.
Did you have to change your pants after that one... jeez
In reference to the fatal crash last year:
Jesus.
I wonder if she left a tip.
Same problem the whole rideshare industry has really. Only real way they can compete is on price and availability.
Nothing in Boston yet. I am dreading their arrival. I assume they will get here eventually even though most of the local govts are pushing back pretty hard.
I totally agree. Aside from the sheer lack of professionalism, when you kick someone out, you could be putting them in serious danger, depending on where you are. There better be a damn good reason to do it.
You have to have thick skin in this business. Rude behavior or someone dictating the route like this can't get to you. You gotta roll with it even when you are having a bad day, that's what makes a professional.
Hate to say it but it doesn't seem like this is likely to happen in most places. The cat is out of the bag. These localities missed their shot to regulate Uber/Lyft when they first started operating, before the public got too used to them and before they were able to lower prices to these current levels. If they try now they will have a damn revolt on their hands.
I will not drive unaccompanied minors. No way no how. Too many risks. These days you have to be careful. One of these minors could claim you did something inappropriate, and then its their word against yours (another good reason to use a dashcam). Who is a jury going to believe? Do you want to take that gamble? I like my life and my good reputation, I plan to keep it.
Ok so this proves it. 1) Drivers hate Pool. 2) Riders hate Pool.
Literally everyone hates pool, except 7% of rides (screw em). Can we get rid of it now?
