Driver here. Uber cars are technically supposed to be smoke-free. But like brownbear said, even if that rule was adhered to, you don't know the car's history. One thing you could do is call the driver after you request the ride (you can call via the app), and ask them, explaining that any previous smokers in the car at all would give you a bad reaction. Most drivers would be honest about it since they don't want a bad rating. They would rather you cancel the ride than get a 1 star rating.
"shut the driver up" LOL
I don't really care about it personally. I'll shut up if they want me to. I'm not much of a talker anyways.
Definitely reasonable. Go for it.
The lack of judgement some parents show will never cease to amaze me.
Post on craigslist, see if anyone is going that way. Shot in the dark but it could work. Just be careful, don't get stuck with a nut for a 3 hour ride!
Great point on this. Frankly it seems like pretty clear that rides are being sold well below cost now. Maybe taxis had it pretty much priced right all along, even if there were shady people skimming off the top.
BTW wasn't Uber just black cars at the beginning? Basically what Uber Black is now. I believe Lyft did start as a carpool sharing idea though like you said.
I hope you are right. I think the big reason it made it to national news was the IPO today. They really timed this strike well. But, sadly, I am afraid it's still going to have basically no effect. And there won't be more opportunities like this for such a high profile strike.
Oh well.
Good luck to you all.
Great info. Thanks. Can you explain a little more about what "period three" means? You are saying that the rideshares company's insurance pays first, before our own?
Lilly, what about if the driver has a ride that goes out of cell coverage? Does the app just pick up where it left off when the driver goes back into coverage?
I drive in a big city so this hasn't happened to me, but in more rural areas it could...
😂 Sky's the limit on this one...
Even technologically they are farther off than people think. Decades IMO. I have yet to hear how they will deal with winter climates.
Silicon Valley be crazy...
TBH, I think the burden needs to be on the rider to verify. Why should Uber have to verify that the rider verified? Snapping a pic would add a level of friction to the whole transaction and doesn't make it any safer, since the user can just look at the plate on their own.
I think most of us were smart enough to avoid it... thankfully.
Buy low... sell high. Now is not the time to buy.
Right? They are slowing drifting towards being an unlicensed taxi service. The only difference being they can't pick up street hails.
The guy in the picture is using a really out of date uber logo. It's two logos ago LOL
This is kind of a weird dilemma. Because I would be afraid that if I drive away, they will just get in their car and try to make it home. Not good. Especially with a kid in the car. So, just based on what you said I would have probably done the same, just try to get them home and be done with it.
Other option is to call the cops like you said, if you want to go that route.
I will say. Driving rideshares is not for the feint of heart.
😆 😆 😆
Rule #1 of customer service: don't alienate your customer. Fail.
Some people are jerks and have bad attitudes. You still have to drive them around. We all work in the service industry. Drivers need to realize that, and to realize that the service industry is not for everyone. You don't get to pick and choose who your clients are and you certainly should not be preemptively bitching and moaning about them via passive aggressive notes in the back of your car. This guy should not be in a customer facing job.
