Driver here. Uber cars are technically supposed to be smoke-free. But like brownbear said, even if that rule was adhered to, you don't know the car's history. One thing you could do is call the driver after you request the ride (you can call via the app), and ask them, explaining that any previous smokers in the car at all would give you a bad reaction. Most drivers would be honest about it since they don't want a bad rating. They would rather you cancel the ride than get a 1 star rating.
Yeah I mean math says if a driver gives you a 4 (or lower) it takes a lot of 5 ratings to get back to where you were. it is really hard to get it back. You probably just had a couple a-hole drivers who didn't like you for whatever reason or were just having a bad day.
Uber's rating system is horrible. It's not your fault.. I wouldn't worry about it.
Unfortunately, since Uber is a private organization they probably have the right to do this. I wonder if the fact that we are contractors changes that though. Companies can definitely spy on employees. Happens all the time even in white collar jobs. Maybe not contractors? don't know.
How did this happen? Was it a special deal or do the chopper prices vary that much or what?
WTH didi
Great tips. Suburbs are where it's at on heavy nights like this. Everyone needs rides, rides tend to be longer, and if you find the right area you can be driving pretty much non stop. Night before thanksgiving is when all the college kids come home to roost and hang with their old high school pals. Definitely a big night.
I think it would be fine.
Who's fault do you think it was? If your were not at fault them I can't imagine Uber deactivating you for it. If you were then I don't know but probably not for something so minor.
Always exchange info with the other driver. At the very least you should get name, address, insurance company (ideally policy number too), license plate, drivers license number/state, and make/model of car.
If the damage is minimal maybe you can work out something with the driver to avoid getting insurance involved.
I don't know whether background check will reveal this or not.
All this is really hard to remember in the heat of the moment. Accidents suck. I'm sure everything will be fine for you.
I have a jackolantern of candy in my car. Better see some tips from this.
There are some real freaks out there. In my city there have been numerous cases of guys caught doing this in public places. Park benches, subways, etc. Disgusting.
Surge could be higher at that time. But it depends if there are a lot of drivers on the road maybe not.
OMG that video... LOL. I love that black car that nails the pedestrian... and THEN STOPS. Good effort there buddy!
That's assault, and he ought to be charged for it, if they knew who he was.
But I hate to say it that kind of behavior comes with the territory. Someone in another thread was saying we should all have those plastic shields installed in our cars like taxis have in big cities. Doesn't seem like that bad of an idea when you see behavior like this.
That's.... not how leadership works, Dara. That's cowardice, not leadership.
"How do you like working for Uber?"
I used to get this question more often, but sometimes people (who I assume are new to Uber) still ask it. The answer is awkward because I used to like driving for Uber more when they paid decently. These days I wonder if it is even worth it. But if I say that, it sounds like I'm groveling for a tip. So I just say "Yeah it's ok" and hope there are no follow up questions.
🤣 politics and religion. Really should not be brought up these days unless someone is looking for a fight. Another thing is when they slam the door when they get out of the car like they are trying to keep the demons of Hades from escaping the back seat. Just chill.
Yeah for a decent hourly rate I'll wait all day if I have to.
So you're basically hiring a date, amiright? I hear that gets expensive...
Yeah shouldn't be a problem.
Kind of an interesting move on lyfts part. Def don't like it but like you said people in smaller markets should love it.
I was also surprised by the stat on 91% of drivers being <20 hrs/wk. Would have guessed maybe 50-60%.
Umm... Maybe you're gonna get busy... Not me. Delivery is not a way to make a living.
