Here is the full review after he gave it a go for a week.
Top Takeaways
Pay is comparable but the rideshare bonuses really tilt the scales! Uber and Lyft pay top drivers up to $500 per week on top of fares just to get them out on the road.
Taxi passengers tended to be older, more mature and far more interesting. Many of them had a strong anti Uber and Lyft bias because of the increased congestion associated with rideshare.
The taxi sign-up process is much more onerous even though both rideshare drivers and taxi drivers are doing the exact same job. Jay had to submit fingerprints, a drug test, online training and even submit a few paper forms.
It requires far more skill to be a good taxi driver than a good Uber/Lyft driver.

Yes, you can schedule a ride ahead in SF if you are worried about getting a ride, though as RedANT stated you should have no problem getting a ride on demand.
If you are looking for companies that focus on scheduling rides in advance you can use RideGuru's Fare Calculator and look under the "Book Ahead" tab for your trip to find companies that will allow you to easily book your ride in advance.

Here is a handy guide for what each car size can accommodate!
Driverless!
Personally, tip signs never encourage me to tip, in fact they rub me the wrong way! I just want to tip if you are a good person!
Just keep in mind that while you can change your route for Uber X, XL, SUV, Black, etc, you cannot change your route for an Uber Pool trip as the route is predetermined to pick up other passengers!
Ya, I would have to agree with you here!
I usually just type in the location name and use Uber's autocomplete to get where I am going!
Where are you based out of? Unfortunately, from my experience Uber rules change drastically from city to city. Some cities only charge a dollar for the extra person, some don't, and some charge even more!
As you mentioned in your area that it does cost the extra for the 2nd passenger, then I would scrap my original advice and only book your Uber Pool as yourself. Uber says you are allowed to bring luggage, etc with you into an Uber pool and I would classify your walker in that category. You shouldn't be penalized and have to pay more for your walker! That is just my opinion, but I would find it hard to believe that most drivers wouldn't feel similarly and work with you if a situation arises where there is not enough room for subsequent passengers.
Good question! Can your walker fold in a way that you can fit it in a standard sized trunk? Uber drivers are used to having to fit luggage in their trunk so if you can fit it that would be ideal and would relieve the worry of future passengers not fitting in the cab of the car.
If not, I would go with your suggestion of requesting your Uber Pool as 2 passengers (with your walker being the second). This won't cost you any extra money and would give your driver a heads up!
This is fascinating. Has anyone hear ever turned down a cop for a ridedue to this reason? I am curious what would happen now!
Yep! Limo Service!
I used it once but it is nothing special. Just a taxi that costs a little bit more due to the Curb app fee.
Lyft is a fighter!
Wait, there are states between California and New York?! ;)
RideGuru is not a taxi or rideshare company! Are you looking to use a specific company? Uber or Lyft?
Typical Millennial...
These stories are always so sad. I remember reading about a story a couple years ago where an Uber driver locked a womens guide dog in the trunk and wouldn't let the dog out no matter how much the women begged :(
I agree with Ippei. You will be most comfortable in an Uber XL or SUV (SUV is the fancier version of the XL) but if your luggage is reasonably sized (can all fit in the trunk of a sedan) and you are on a budget then you should be fine with an Uber X!
I take my poodle mix dog in Ubers with me all the time and have never had a problem!
LOL!
While filling out Uber form - "Criminal History... this part is optional, I will just skip this"
The next biggest question is whether or not Lyft will follow suit... once again...
Any typical car (an Uber X or Lyft) would work just fine for your 2 passengers plus 4 suitcases!
