Here is the full review after he gave it a go for a week.
Top Takeaways
Pay is comparable but the rideshare bonuses really tilt the scales! Uber and Lyft pay top drivers up to $500 per week on top of fares just to get them out on the road.
Taxi passengers tended to be older, more mature and far more interesting. Many of them had a strong anti Uber and Lyft bias because of the increased congestion associated with rideshare.
The taxi sign-up process is much more onerous even though both rideshare drivers and taxi drivers are doing the exact same job. Jay had to submit fingerprints, a drug test, online training and even submit a few paper forms.
It requires far more skill to be a good taxi driver than a good Uber/Lyft driver.

Yes, you can schedule a ride ahead in SF if you are worried about getting a ride, though as RedANT stated you should have no problem getting a ride on demand.
If you are looking for companies that focus on scheduling rides in advance you can use RideGuru's Fare Calculator and look under the "Book Ahead" tab for your trip to find companies that will allow you to easily book your ride in advance.

Here is a handy guide for what each car size can accommodate!
haha unfortunately this was before dash cams were a thing but it is a legendary story within my family.
What! This is nuts 😂 I definitely would have gotten out of car right then and there.
One time my parents were in a rental car when the brakes went out, right at the top of a big hill, and before my dad could even process what was happening my mom has jumped out of the car leaving my dad behind to crash in the car at the bottom of the hill LOL so much for true love.
Back in my early days of taking Uber I once brought a pizza I had ordered into the car, I didn't eat it in the car but still...
I feel guilty about it to this day haha
😂
Though I am sure they will make him pay the $100 back
Interesting concept though, going out with a bang. Might as well try to when you are done haha
haha yep, exactly. Pretty dumb scam lol
Yes exactly! I bet the kid felt proud though :)
Here is some more information on this new feature. It is currently only at Portland International Airport but Uber hopes to roll this out across the US soon.
What airport are you looking to travel from? You can schedule one in advance but in most situations it is going to be better if you just order one when you get there!
My 9 year old nephew once gave me his favorite Harry Potter lego book for my 25th birthday. It was so sweet and he was so excited to give me a present (I love harry potter) but I just felt so bad taking it from him!! It is really hard to be in those types of situations with kids.
Drivers can definitely take advantage of this so yes this can be infuriating! However, on the flip side, some drivers have rides that never show up or are extremely late and as a result they have to cancel the ride to move on with their day. In these situations it is only fair that the driver is compensated for their time waiting. If you were wrongly charged by a driver who was trying to game the system, contact Uber. Many times they will refund you the charge and if a driver gets too many of these complaints then they may be removed from the platform.
Another vote for my baby wipe hack! :)
I could never get goo gone to work that well, I always found I had to seriously scrub whenever I used it. However, a few weeks ago I tried to get some tape off my windows from the previous owners and I put the goo gone on and let it sit then wiped it off with soapy water and it came off so easily! I guess I always missed the soapy water step 😂
LOL
Jumping off of this comment, this blog post has some helpful carpool apps that would let you meet other parents in your area.
I also recently heard of VanGo which is Connecticut based. I believe it primarily is catered towards teens and preteens but depending on your kids ages this may be helpful for you?
Best of luck!
Uber is still a bit vague on what the requirements are for Uber Comfort, probably since the program is in beta still. They do mention that both the vehicle and driver have to qualify and so far we have heard of drivers qualifying with a 2016 Ford Explorer Limited, a 2016 and a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander.
Check out this newsroom post which may help you to troubleshoot the problem. Most likely you will need to reach out to Uber through the link in the post to get your issue resolved.
Have you tried searching for your trip using the RideGuru Fare Comparison Calculator? This will give you a price estimate for each company in Mumbai so you can pick the best option for you.

Uber and Lyft charge for the ride not per person. If you are traveling by yourself, you will simply pay the estimated amount you calculated on this site. However, if you choose to travel with friends you can fit others in the car with you to save money!
