Here is the full review after he gave it a go for a week.
Top Takeaways
Pay is comparable but the rideshare bonuses really tilt the scales! Uber and Lyft pay top drivers up to $500 per week on top of fares just to get them out on the road.
Taxi passengers tended to be older, more mature and far more interesting. Many of them had a strong anti Uber and Lyft bias because of the increased congestion associated with rideshare.
The taxi sign-up process is much more onerous even though both rideshare drivers and taxi drivers are doing the exact same job. Jay had to submit fingerprints, a drug test, online training and even submit a few paper forms.
It requires far more skill to be a good taxi driver than a good Uber/Lyft driver.

Yes, you can schedule a ride ahead in SF if you are worried about getting a ride, though as RedANT stated you should have no problem getting a ride on demand.
If you are looking for companies that focus on scheduling rides in advance you can use RideGuru's Fare Calculator and look under the "Book Ahead" tab for your trip to find companies that will allow you to easily book your ride in advance.

Have you tried searching for a ride on our fare comparison calculator? You can filter by number of passengers to see if there is a ride that will fit your group.
This paragraph is quite deep.
"Worse is the tale of two cities effect: Relatively well off people in Ubers congesting the streets of Manhattan and San Francisco slow down buses full of relatively low-income people. By giving people who can afford it escape from the subway, Uber and Lyft also reduce social interaction between people of different classes and lead to a more stratified society."
I did just read an article that Uber is now rolling out public transit options within their app to allow people to compare costs and trip times. The hope is to rectify some of the issues they created in regards to public transport. Not sure showing people how much they will save will help any (most people understand the cost difference between Uber and the subway) but still interesting nonetheless.
Here's to hoping that Uber does not decrease the driver's commission just because there is more driver supply currently.
I have heard from numerous people that they cannot schedule Uber rides in St.Louis, so my guess is that it is unavailable. Have you tried using Lyft? They also have an advanced scheduled ride feature and tend to cover more locations than Uber.
St Louis is also a busy market so I can't imagine, unless you're deep in the suburbs, that a car won't be available to pick you and your cat up. :)
yes! This is correct, thank you for adding this information.
New blog post outlining the rewards structure.

How to Earn Uber Rewards Points
Use the below table to see how many dollars you need to spend on each service to accumulate points. For instance, for every $1 you spend on an Uber Pool ride you receive 1 reward point. For every 500 points you receive $5 off.

Do you know which company you would like to use? Have you tried searching for a company using our Fare Calculator?
Didi wrote back to me with this:
"As of the moment, DiDi is operating in Melbourne and in Geelong. However, we don't have an exact information as to when we are going to start operating in Sydney."
So it looks like they are not in Perth but looking to expand to Sydney soon.

I have never experienced this issue. Have you tried contacting Lyft? or tweeting at them?
I am curious what they will say, probably a technical glitch.
