Here is the full review after he gave it a go for a week.
Top Takeaways
Pay is comparable but the rideshare bonuses really tilt the scales! Uber and Lyft pay top drivers up to $500 per week on top of fares just to get them out on the road.
Taxi passengers tended to be older, more mature and far more interesting. Many of them had a strong anti Uber and Lyft bias because of the increased congestion associated with rideshare.
The taxi sign-up process is much more onerous even though both rideshare drivers and taxi drivers are doing the exact same job. Jay had to submit fingerprints, a drug test, online training and even submit a few paper forms.
It requires far more skill to be a good taxi driver than a good Uber/Lyft driver.

Yes, you can schedule a ride ahead in SF if you are worried about getting a ride, though as RedANT stated you should have no problem getting a ride on demand.
If you are looking for companies that focus on scheduling rides in advance you can use RideGuru's Fare Calculator and look under the "Book Ahead" tab for your trip to find companies that will allow you to easily book your ride in advance.

Here is a handy guide for what each car size can accommodate!
Hey, I sent this thread to Uber on twitter as well! Here is what they have said so far, so that helpful. I will also update you if the respond to my further questioning.
"Here to help. Before every trip, drivers will be asked to confirm that they've taken specific steps to prioritize safety, including wearing a face cover or mask. You may refer to this link https://ubr.to/34oSPc2 for more information."
This article also outlines how to set multiple destination trips on Lyft if you would rather use Lyft than Uber.
Hello, do you have the Uber or Lyft app? Both of these services should have an option to book a car in advance so you can set up these rides for your father. Take a look at these articles.
How to Schedule Lyft Rides in Advance
How to Schedule Uber Rides in Advance
As far as an estimate goes, try using our Fare Comparison Calculator to see how much this journey will cost with each ride service so you can choose the cheapest option.
Wow. That is so frustrating. I have heard of a lot of drivers encountering ignorant riders who refuse to wear masks and blame the driver for the rule even though it is explicitly stated by Uber. I would have thought Uber would have had your back in these situations...
Please keep us updated, did you fight back?
Are you a driver in CA?
Hi, RideGuru does not book cars directly but if you have the Uber app already downloaded then you are already half way there! Simply open your Uber app and follow these steps to schedule a car for your trip.
Hi! Have you tried using our Fare Comparison Calculator to determine this ride cost? Input your starting and ending locations to see how much each car will cost you. If you have a lot of luggage and/or passengers, try looking at the SUV services which will better accommodate a larger group.

Have you tried searching on our Fare Comparison Calculator to see if Uber is available for your area? If it is not, you may just find another great alternative!
RideGuru is not a ride hailing service! Try using our Fare Comparison Calculator to find a company that best fits your needs.
I would recommend scheduling in advance and be prepared for some drivers to turn you down, however, long journeys can be lucrative for drivers so I bet someone will come along who will be willing to take you! Uber let's drivers know within the app if it is going to be a long ride so you shouldn't have to deal with drivers accepting the ride and then arriving and canceling when they find out the length of the trip. I would also recommend scheduling or ordering the ride a fair amount before you actually need it, just in case it takes a while for someone to accept!
Hi, Feel free to email me directly at [email protected] to discuss adding Lymo. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing!
You can book your Uber in advanced but it does not guarantee that you will have a ride. It is still recommended that when traveling from airports (even in the middle of the night) that you simply request your vehicle when you land. There is always a supply of drivers ready!
There is no standard surcharge but depending on demand, you may hit surge pricing.
Ya I have been recently reading about this "ask" a lot, seems drivers would love to let their riders know that their tips are appreciated within the app. Seems simple enough too but, you are right, Uber hardly listens to "feedback"!
Where are you starting out from? Your best bet would be if UberPool or LyftLine are available in your area. Have you tried using RideGuru's Fare Comparison Calculator to check?
I would recommend not scheduling in advance, there is almost always Uber/Lyft drivers available at the major airports 24/7. It would be best to simply order your car when you land, that way you don't have to worry about any cancellation fees if your plane is late.
Pretty Good. I bet a number of rideshare drivers would be willing to take you!
