Here is the full review after he gave it a go for a week.
Top Takeaways
Pay is comparable but the rideshare bonuses really tilt the scales! Uber and Lyft pay top drivers up to $500 per week on top of fares just to get them out on the road.
Taxi passengers tended to be older, more mature and far more interesting. Many of them had a strong anti Uber and Lyft bias because of the increased congestion associated with rideshare.
The taxi sign-up process is much more onerous even though both rideshare drivers and taxi drivers are doing the exact same job. Jay had to submit fingerprints, a drug test, online training and even submit a few paper forms.
It requires far more skill to be a good taxi driver than a good Uber/Lyft driver.

Yes, you can schedule a ride ahead in SF if you are worried about getting a ride, though as RedANT stated you should have no problem getting a ride on demand.
If you are looking for companies that focus on scheduling rides in advance you can use RideGuru's Fare Calculator and look under the "Book Ahead" tab for your trip to find companies that will allow you to easily book your ride in advance.

Here is a handy guide for what each car size can accommodate!
Here is a handy guide for what each car size can accommodate!
Great question. As Chris mentioned it does partly depend on where you live but it is definitely doable! Check out this article that was just published today on taking Ubers for long distances for some key tips.
Really this should be implemented for all transportation personnel. Trains, planes, boats, etc. So so important to be aware!
You can try booking an Uber or Lyft in advance but keep in mind this is not 100% guaranteed. If you do schedule an Uber or Lyft, you may want to schedule it a little early just in case the driver doesn't show, then you have time to book another ride.
You can compare prices on RideGuru but we are not a taxi or rideshare company so we are unable to directly book a ride for you.
Wow, sorry to hear this. That is crazy that they didn't even wait for your side of the story!! Do you think they have put two and two together, that you are Sergio the driver AND writer?
Seems like they are deactivating drivers for nothing these days.
What directions are you following? How are they not matching up? Perhaps I can help guide you. As some other commenters mentioned though, pre-booking is not guaranteed!
Perhaps there is a Women only company that operates at SFO in this article?
Great Topic! One time my phone died right after I requested an Uber and unfortunately I wasn't in a great part of the city (and my pickup location was a bit confusing) but my Uber driver made it and did not complain at all about the confusion! In fact he could tell I was visibly "freaked" and made such an effort to make me feel comfortable. He showed me his app so I could verify he was in fact my driver (as my phone was dead!) and he immediately gave me a phone charger. I was grateful for his kind demeanor when I was in a bit of a rut.
hm, I almost feel as though this new feature is "moving backwards" not forwards lol
I find this interesting as I always look out for my driver and when I see them coming I walk a little closer to the road/their car and do a small wave. I thought this was the norm.
Great read! Excited for part 2!
Oh that is interesting, do you live in a rural area?
The older I get the more I realize there are quite a few bad eggs within our society. Be careful driving out there Momof4!!
Haha welcome to the life of bored teenagers. The make the most senseless decisions. I grew up in the boonies so our fun was "taking over random fields" 😂
We actually did a survey on this last year and 64% said they wouldn't ride in a driverless vehicle. I was actually fairly surprised as I expected that number to be even higher.

It is funny that they saying this company is new as we have known about them for a little bit, perhaps they are just expanding now.
Looks like you link is wrong?
Is it the same company as this VanGo? https://www.ridevango.com/
So often when you order things like fries, mozz sticks, they are in a brown paper bad that is stapled shut. Do you think drivers carry around staplers to "reseal" the bag once they have stolen some food? LOL I truly wonder this now...
just all working on changing the logo 😂
no, I should have given the guy a slice. Im the worst 😔
