The car you get with UberXL, can be a numbr of different cars, so there's always a chance you get a smaller SUV. So watch out for that.
and the problem here is that the driver doesn't have to pick up big cargo items. and they hate it when you have big items that needs to be loaded. It can take time in loading and it can damage their cars. They will definitely not like it. (I wouldn't.)
I would request a UberXL, and immediately call the driver to see if he is willing to do so. By some luck, you would get one that doesn't mind and will do the task for you. Make sure to mention upront that you would tip handsomely. (Don't wait until it's over and offer. Just offer upfront.)

Not sure if this is a formal movement, but I have heard vocal groups of rideshare drivers discussing this.
At high level, they are against the illusion of transparency and flexible work schedule that Uber promotes. They feel that as independent workers, they should be able to see the rides they are accepting and decide where to work and what riders to pick up.
They also feel unfair where the riders can see a lot about them but the drivers cannot. For example, riders can see the gender and race of the drivers, but the drivers cannot. If riders can discriminate why can't the drivers?

I stopped paying attention to any types of driver promotions and incentives. Lyft started this trend earlier and Uber is all over it now.
It’s an obvious attempt to confuse the drivers so they don’t really know how much they’re making. They will do this to make us work harder while making less money.
Is this a shady question?
Did you get deactivated and no trying to drive under a different name or phone?
Yes. very true. like dominant. I have no idea why. I don't really use Lyft app all that much, but when I do, I do get tipped more at a higher percentage.
I think it's because Lyft drivers seem to be more experienced rideshare travelers. With Uber, I get tourists and people using it for the first time. They all fumble around. With Lyft, they are all experts. (and usually younger)
- Those who make me wait.
- Those who says they'll tip but don't.
- Backseat drivers. or dictating the route even though I have my own way.
- Those who talk about topics I prefer to not talk about. Like politics. It's tough, becauase we cannot walk away
I guess these are just common complaints, huh
People who drive Ubers, at least UberXs, are normal people. People like you and me. They often have other jobs. They may not have been doing this for years and years. Know this and understand this.
- They will heavily rely on the GPS. They may not know the roads as well as the cabbie.
- Their shift may end so if they need to cancel a ride or not accommodate your change request, don't get mad. They have a family to get back to and other obligations. They often work on weird schedules.
- Treat their vehicle with respect. That car you are riding on may be the car the driver's kids or grand kids sit on. Don't puke on it. don't leave crap on it. Treat it like you treat your own car.
You need your personal auto insurance that has various coverage options on it. Since you will be on the road a lot, make sure you signe up for a Comprehensive Coverage, which covers for all damage to your own vehicle. (not just others). Others like Liability are often required, in most states.
Your driving day can be broken up into three different areas. #1) While you are waiting for a request, #2) While you have been requested and driving to pickup, and #3) You are driving a customer.
#1 is covered through your personal insurance. #3 is covered through Uber or Lyft's insurance. #2 should be covered by your personal insurance, but sometimes that is considered as a gray area.
That stain doesn't even look fresh or new.
It looks like James has been up to no good.
Great story. We are all in it together.
I feel like I have higher-than-average pot smokers as a driver.
I feel like I've hit a new low in my life, every time I am Febreezing and airing out my car, in a panic to get it ready for the next fare. I mean, I am doing this on street corners, middle of intersections, weird parking lots. and at weird times of the day. All in a mad-rush so it's ready for the next person.
Pax has no idea how much work we do between fares.
cabin smelled like marijuana.
These aren't mine but it's pretty funny. So much reality to it.
It's F*cked up Uber. It's a derogatory name for Uber, because they are messed up.
This is a response to how drivers "stopped chasing surges."
So we are now to go back to chasing surges again. :) Right? I mean, they are telling us 1) they last longer and 2) if you enter one, you can exit and still get the surge.
Well, except the part where the rider funds you and knocks on your window. LOL. Do you ignore that? That'd be super awkward.
well, I frankly don't like wet shoes and boots, but yeah...you do make more money.
Umm. well, maybe his car broke down for real. but he can certainly cancel the pickup. That's what he should have done.
There are no cancellation fees for drivers. It just hurts their acceptance rate. Maybe he was afraid of that?
How fare are you going? Was it too short of a trip that he didn't like it? It's a practice frowned upon, but some drivers do do this. He accepted to see your destination, and decided to not take you. (Then again, he could have cancelled.)
Lyft is already doing this for their Platinum Drivers. I believe all across the nation.
That could definitely be true that I am grandfathered. However, I suspect that they'll tighten the rein on my at some point.
I've been driving rideshares for like 5 years and no, I never knew this existed.
I appreciate you recommending this to us, but if the police aren't paying attention, it means nothing, right? If I lived in NYC where I am sure the officers are trained, that's one thing. but I am sure that isn't the case everywhere.
I did an exact same ride, and I was able to pick up just fine. and I live farther north than where you are.
