The car you get with UberXL, can be a numbr of different cars, so there's always a chance you get a smaller SUV. So watch out for that.
and the problem here is that the driver doesn't have to pick up big cargo items. and they hate it when you have big items that needs to be loaded. It can take time in loading and it can damage their cars. They will definitely not like it. (I wouldn't.)
I would request a UberXL, and immediately call the driver to see if he is willing to do so. By some luck, you would get one that doesn't mind and will do the task for you. Make sure to mention upront that you would tip handsomely. (Don't wait until it's over and offer. Just offer upfront.)

Not sure if this is a formal movement, but I have heard vocal groups of rideshare drivers discussing this.
At high level, they are against the illusion of transparency and flexible work schedule that Uber promotes. They feel that as independent workers, they should be able to see the rides they are accepting and decide where to work and what riders to pick up.
They also feel unfair where the riders can see a lot about them but the drivers cannot. For example, riders can see the gender and race of the drivers, but the drivers cannot. If riders can discriminate why can't the drivers?

I stopped paying attention to any types of driver promotions and incentives. Lyft started this trend earlier and Uber is all over it now.
It’s an obvious attempt to confuse the drivers so they don’t really know how much they’re making. They will do this to make us work harder while making less money.
Guru answer is dead on. And it’s super annoying if you are the only driver. I sometimes would have to leave the location to make it stop.
Imagine a scenario where the ride was declined or cancelled and the rider is still trying to find a ride. How awkward to be matched up again.
Pay scale for seniority, I disagree with. It doesn't mean that people who've been driving longer are better drivers.
Rather than paying by seniority, what about a different pay scale for better rated drivers? So if you are 4.90, you get paid more than those at 4.6. Of course, for this to work, the added cost will NOT be passed on to the consumer, but that should be alright. The company will pay less for lowly rated drivers to offset the cost.
Full disclaimer, my experience is with Uber, so it may be different for Lyft. However, Lyft has been known to be looser for the pickup areas, so I hope this will help.
You shouldn't have to create "two" accounts. In fact, they won't allow you to have two identities, so it'd be a red flag if you tried to open two accounts. Don't do that!
In terms of switching regions, they are pretty good at giving you the region you want. You just have to file a request, and they will do the necessary paperwork and background checks to satisfy you for the new reason. Driver do switch all the time.
In terms of being eligible to drive in multiple regions, you should be okay there too. I know other drivers who requested they'd be able to drive for multiple, and they were given access. They are vague about confirming your status, but yes, if you are getting ride requests, you should be good.
Remember - there are people who live right on the border of PA and MD, let's say. So they are used to giving such access with flexibility. PA requires the in-state inspection, so you may be on the hook for that if you don't already have one, but as long as you got the requirements figured out, you should be good.
So...contact them and see what they say!
The drivers are trying to hide and mask something else. It could be the smell of the driver or something from the previous passenger
This is an old stereotype of taxicabs. That was often to coverup the smell of the drivers who rarely take showers.
There’s a lot I want them to know, but I’m not sure if I got thing I don’t want them to know.
I definitely don’t want them to know about the previous passenger who was obviously a working girl with no underwear?
I like it.
You are right. I guess it's just giving a voice...an area to enter our "excuse." but I like it.
Is this really controversial? They can do whatever they want in their own app.
Give drivers their voice. I actually prefer to remain a contractor, thank you. Once we become an employee, they may dictate the hours I drive, where I drive, which rides I can pick up, etc. etc. That would stink.
What car that's less than 12 years old (or whatever the requirement is) not have an A/C?
So, it looks like you get a bunch of warnings. So at the end of the day, we don't really know when riders will be deactivated.
I appreciate this message though, and it's a good step in the right direction. I hope it'll keep the riders in check.
This is a real good question and a very real scenario.
I'd say you cancel it. You can avoid a one-star rating if you cancel before a pickup. This isn't your fault. You are just playing under the rules set by Uber. I wouldn't blame you at all.
I don't know. Will he be in a condition to call a car and hop in one?
I'd say order him a car service with a private driver and explain the situation. It may cost a bit more, but I think the extra precaution will be important. You can make a reservation, you can have the contact of the driver, you just get a personal service that I think your father needs.
Uber drivers have been in the news for abandoning passengers on the side of the road. You wouldn't want that for your father.
This all depends on the market, because the competition level heavily varies from market to market. In many, I don't think it matters.
It also matters what time you are working. You will be surprised that if you drove during the day, during slow times, those will hurt the fulltime drivers the most.
Even with that said, this is your life and your choice. No one can dictate whether you can work overtime or not.
I can't check now but it used to be under Vehicles. Like Account-->Vehicles-->
You won't see the option if you don't have access to other services. Like, if you only have UberX, you won't even see an option.
This is actually a good question. Longer rides do seem to pay out much better and also profitable. After all, you are getting paid for that whole duration you are driving. This sure beats the down times between rides and the drive to go get the passenger, where we aren't paid at all.
With that said, there are two things working against long drives:
So learning from the above, shorter trips can be better if you are getting them in a row with very short pickup distances.
Yeah, we use the same app. If we used the same app, we could get double booked with food and humans, right?
I know why you'd think it's separate apps though. Consumers who are ordering do indeed have separate apps. Drivers have completely different apps! (Called Uber Driver)
I am sure it says somewhere in your auto insurance terms that yo are not supposed to have a poisonous creatures. No, this isn't a joke. You do something like this and I am sure your liability insurance will be affected. Yes, I am referring to the spider biting your passenger.

Between 10 and 2, I do UberEats. I don't make nearly as much as when I drive passengers, but that's how you keep busy through the slow times. Luckily, the busy times for UberEats is when it's slow for riders - and vice versa.
During my slow times, I just park somewhere and read a book. ..or play smartphone games. Why waste gas going home just to come back later again?
Surges and boost apply to UberEats too. So I assume once it starts shooting up, some drivers will pick up.
Just so you know, in many areas, UberX drivers are required to receive UberEats requests too. (though yes, they can decline those.)
I assume it's just a laptop screen. No reason it has to be an app on the restaurant's side.
