This happened to me quite a few times. This particular night I get a request for Uber X I can seat 4 safely. I pull up there are 3 people they say we are waiting for one more. I am paying no attention to back seat they say ok we are good I start trip get 5 blocks from pick up look in rear view mirror I have 4 in back 1 in front. So what do I do? Do I say something? Do I end trip there and boot them out? I am sure you are all saying I would of. Lol There is 5 of them one of me, oh forgot to mention I am not in a very good neighborhood. Do I call police? I probably won't get past 91 before one of them can take my phone and if I can connect with 911 chances are police will not be there before I am beaten and my car is on cinder blocks. So I take my time ride the right lane nice and slow, stay away from traffic. We get to destination still in another crappy hood. I quickly end trip. The person they are meeting doesn't answer their call so they are not moving out of my car. Uh hello trips over. So they continue to sit in my car for 10 min deciding what to do. Fnally I get another rider so I find my voice and get the courage to say "I got to go" . Still another 2 min. go by. Finally guy comes out and they get their stuff out of my trunk and go on their way. Now I pull up with doors locked and don't unlock until I know how many are getting in my car. I've learned quite a few lessons driving for Uber this past year.

I've picked up strippers twice. One stripper had a fit & started screaming at me because I didnt pick her up at stripper enterance. The app put me in front of the place. I had never been there before. She called me screaming so I drive around to where she told me but there were people all over plus 2 entrances/exits so I ask the first female I see if she was my passenger. She ignores me then I see Mr. Big and Beefy with the tight muscle head shirt on wave me over. She opens door starts screaming why didnt you come here 1st & why were you talking to those people? I try to explain that the pick up location put me up front and what people are you talking about? She screams the people in the car. I reply "what people, what car" . She screams again the people in the car. I am getting annoyed now, because she hasnt stopped screaming at me and what people in what car not a clue who she was referring to. I should've left when I was eligible for cancel fee. We drive a mile GPS says make left turn screaming stripper barks order i will tell you where to go. We go another mile another barking order "pull into that gas station I need something". She needed something all right some manners or a foot up her ass. I pull in to this gas station that is packed has a line of cars to get in (will explain the line of cars at 3am at a gas station another time). I finally get into lot she gets out and I plot my escape. Why should I take her screaming, order barking ass anywhere else they dont pay me enough for this? I put the car in drive ready to pull out and my guilty conscience kicks in. Its 3am you cant do that. Then the little devil on my shoulder says go for it. Good conscience won I stayed but when she got back in I had a little talk with her. By the time i dropped her off she was happy. So happy when she got out she said "i am going to give you 5 stars". I wanted to reply "stick your 5 stars so far up (that thing you shake for money)that they shoot out of your mouth and hand over some of those bills you made tonight. She was out right rude and bossy.
The 2nd stripper I picked up didnt yell at me but she also barked orders. Wont get into much detail as I just wrote a book about stripper #1. Her barking orders were hello as she entered car order #1"put this radio station on, order #2 turn volumn up ill tell you when to stop" #3 dont speak to me while music is on #4 put the heat up. No please no thank you ànd you guessed it no tip. Last but not least we pull up to destination my app shows end trip you've arrived i end it wait for her to get the hell out. But she needs to bark 1 more order #5 "I've never been here before just sit here until I can find my friend then you can leave". Must be a stripper thing to bark orders and not tip. These 2 were in my first month of driving they taught me a few things that night. No, one of those things was not how to work a stripper pole. Thanks for sharing R Paulson. Would love to here more stories.

This time I pick up 3 men in there 30's from India at a strip club in Bensalem PA. They get in dont seem really intoxicated. We have a coversation then they are talking amongst themselves. I look at GPS. Its putting me on PA Turnpike. Now where ever I get off I am not going to know where I am so obviously relying on GPS completely. Go up a few exists get off. Its dark as hell. I swear Bucks County suburbs doesnt like or is too cheap to put up street lights. Everything is so dark you see nothing when you look behind you. At this times roads are not only dark but no traffic around. The guys start speaking in their language now, up to this point their conversations were all English even to each other. Before I go further I was under impression destination was one of their homes. Now I have to turn into a dark business complex. Everything closed no one around. My mind thinks they are plotting to hack me up into little pieces lol This is just too shady. No houses, everything dark, no people, no cars. I am so ready to turn around at this point but had no idea where I could go or what i would say to them about turning around. Hearts pounding, nervous. Drive about .5 mile and up on my right was a Hotel. Never so grateful to see one. This was my 2nd experience on a ride that really scared me being a female driver. I think after all my stripper, strip club experiences (as I have 2 other time I had a pick up) I need to stay away from those places. Those rides are either miserable, scarey or just plain strange. Do you think Uber would deactivate me for not driving to or picking up from those places? Lol Yes definately.
-
I think you should be able to. I have had a few riders who are happy to see a woman driver. I even had a male who said he would rather have a woman because a male driver may be able to over power a male rider. Some of these young girls pass out from drinking. Some are so drunk that a male driver could do something and she probably wouldnt remember. If these women who got raped had a female than the rape would've never happened. Young women tell me all the time some of their male drivers hit on them some are just creepy make them feel uncomfortable. One young woman said her driver bought her cigs alcohol, and tried to kiss her after ride was over. Women tend not to be criminals, rapist, etc. I would think they wouldnt be hitting on male passengers to the point that the msle rider is uncomfortable. Unfortunately these women who have had these issues dont report driver because they are afraid he will come back to their house.

Lilly, Can you please clarify or correct me if I am wrong as I dont want to be giving my riders wrong info. If you schedule a ride more than 60 min. in advance your fare is locked in. If you schedule a ride in less than 60 min. in advance Uber gives you an estimate. Then when you are matched with a driver fare could increase if there is a surge in your area. Thank you.

Uber and Lyft base fares on the longest route to riders destination (time & miles). Most Drivers take the shortest route. Driver is paid for the miles they drove & the amt. of time it took. I arrive at riders destination switch off GPS & go back to Uber or Lyft app. It will say 5 to 15 min until destination. I do the speed limit, I use WAZE app, my car doesn't fly, and its not an amphibious car. Passenger got charged for that 5 to 15 min even though it didnt take that long and they get charged for the miles I didnt travel. This is why drivers are complaining. Uber and Lyft are making a few dollars less than us or the same amount. Nothing we can do as we agreed to be pd per mile and time. Upfront pricing scam. What sucks is riders think we are getting 75%/80% of the fare so they may not be tipping for that reason. Especially on long trips that are 50.00 to 150.00. I am driving for Uber as I text this. When I have some free time later today I will post some screen shots so passengers can see whats going on. O will also screen shot my next trip that says we have X amt of time until destination when we are all ready there.
I dont think most riders will care as their fare isnt increasing but this should be plastered all over the news, social media, internet, etc... Let the public see what these evil companies are doing. I'll say it again most riders will not care as it dont affect them. Just wait until the day it does affect them. The day is coming. Maybe then riders and passengers can finally stand together against these evil companies. It would be awesome for 3 to 5 days near a busy holiday for riders not to request a ride and drivers not to accept a request. It doesnt work well when all riders are still requesting and drivers are on strike because you have drivers (some have no choice i get it) that just dont care and will drive anyway. When we had that strike back in May I worked more hours on the days prior to the strike. I didnt take time off on my usual days the week before that way I had the extra money to strike.
Article about getting pd on way to pick up. With per mile rates being reduced from .60 to .35 in Phoenix. I don't think most passengers would care as their price still stays the same as stated by Lyft. The reality of it Lyft did this so they could make more money on the trip. It is getting to the point where they are going to be getting 75% and drivers will be getting the 25%. Next they will be saying "yes its still a 75/25% split they just wont say its the drivers getting 25%.

Jon, I'll share a little study/research I did on tipping in the next few days I'll post that really helped increase my tips. In some markets those things may work. I just found in my market it doesn't help. I think as a new driver you should give it a try for a few weeks and then stop see how things go. I do keep water in my car .17/.25 per bottle & I do keep jolly ranchers, mints, star burst, etc (whatever is on sale). I do a few pick ups from small airport and lots of pick ups to take to the airport. More people take the candy than the water. I dont believe the tips I get are because of the candy as I get if I dont have the candy. It's rare anyone takes the water. When I used to drive in a different area a few more would take the water but again most wouldn't. Sometimes I feel that the people who have no intention on tipping dont take it because then they feel obligated to tip:) I keep candy & water in my car for 3 reasons. If I run out of something to drink I can reach back and take that water:) I quit smoking or when I am bored or tired I can reach back and grab a piece of candy. Lol The other reason is 98% of my passengers are nice people. I enjoy the conversation and usually have a nice ride so I like to have something back there as a courtesy to my passengers. Last reasons I was always taught not to eat or drink in front of people unless you have enough to share. If I take a drink or eat a mint there are some there for the passenger. Yes I could wait until I drop them off but my rides are mostly 45+ min. I get a decent amount of tips. I feel its mainly how you treat your passengers, car clean & neat, conversation or quiet (preference), music or quiet (preference), help load & unload luggage. Also according to my badges, notes, & ratings on Uber & rating and rider feedback on Lyft that leads me to believe the things I mentioned above is the reason for the decent amount if tips I get. I will say every market, neighborhood, and times you drive may be reason to say people tip because you have snacks and/or water.
If your awake and not busy want to send you a few screenshots via text. Just caught something in my Uber app thats interesting.
When I was younger my dad worked on the mayors campaign in Philly. I got to meet him & shake his hand. He gave me a taffy so yeah I trusted him. I was 5. Lol Are you still awake? I just noticed something in my Uber app. A change. Seems weird.
Is article going to be on here? I will.
I know right. I feel bad for these people that bought into their BS. One guy signed up 8 people apparently got money on 6 but noticed he didnt get any $ on the other 2 so he emailed TRYP. They sent him back an email saying sorry this happened we will refund your $. He wasnt asking for a refund just the $ for the 2 drivers he signed up. So they probably are paying a few hundred out to each influncer and then screwing them. We had 2 influencers on here so basically a few of us said it was a scam. I got into with one of them. He got so frustrated, couldnt answer my questions, then came up with some stupid answers it was kind of fun. Lol Most of those influencers did get mad when people said it was a scam. Why would you hand $ over for a pipe dream? If something sounds to good to be true, apparently people never heard that saying or dont know what a pipe dream is. The guy who came up with it is a criminal, has had failed businesses, and another MLM. It's a shame wouldn't of been a bad plan had it been legit. I want to keep up with Nomad see if that works. As long as their "discounted" commercial insurance isn't sky high $25.00 is nothing. Although I am sure that will go up if it takes off:) They dont even ask for the $ upfront like TRYP even if they did it's 25.00 versus 200.00 TRYP wanted.
Uber rolled out its app then Lyft followed (exactly)everything Uber did. Now that everyone knows the mistakes, what improvement are needed, etc.. Get a few drivers (from small & big cities)on board who know what they are doing, have done thousands of trips, dealt with U & L's BS to help them understand everything that goes on from the ground up. Design the app, come up with a decent name. Be happy with making millions & not throwing the $ that comes in into autonomous cars, outrageous salaries for CEO's & the other top evil minions, helicopters, submarines, and spaceships. Don't put HQ in Silicon Valley. All that's about is status. (Having to have a well known designer label on your clothes because it makes you feel important). Dont be like Dara who wants money & power to be the next Jeff B. Why not be happy with a company that makes you millions? Once you actually turn a profit then start venturing out. It's all out there, all the mistakes, design your app, do things legally, and be fair & transparent. Leave your ego and narcissistic personality at home. It just may work the person or people who can do it. I know writing my novel again. lol One of these days I'll figure out how to type a shorter response.
Great idea.
Well stated. Couldn't agree with you more. Although AB5 dont directly affect me it may set the precedent for all cities in the future. My only issue is Uber and Lyft will retaliate. Maybe not immediately and who knows how but you can be sure they will. They just may retaliate quickly just so other cities dont try to do what CA did. We all know these companies cannot be trusted. They were in panic mode when AB5 was introduced teaming up together, getting emails out to drivers, its been awful quiet lately with them regarding AB5. I cannot help but wonder what bomb they will drop if/when AB5 passes.
Driver only needs to pay $25.00 per month to use app plus insurance. Be curious to see what the "discounted insurance" would be. It could definitely work. Good idea to start in a few big College cities. Get these kids to spread the word on social media, drivers would be no problem. Love the pitch "Interested in helping us kill Uber and Lyft". I checked out their site. No app for Android yet only I Phone. You can give your email address, phone number, city, and state they will keep you updated with their progress. First 30 drivers in each city to give their info receives 2 months free (50.00). I am not far from Princeton University maybe they will come there in the near future:)
Click on link below to see their progress and first 30 drivers to sign up in each city gets 2 months free ($50.00). Nomad is only in Bloomington Indiana right now. They are NOT asking for money upfront, no "influncers" like TRYP, and I have nothing to do with company. Just came across an article in my google newsfeed thought I'd share info.

Uber support is absolutely awful. I've been screwed out of 50.00 just this past week. I just got 15.11 of it back. The other trip I gave up on as the same thing you posted is the same thing drivers deal with. I have one trip left I am still arguing. The first few messages you send are probably answered with the scripted BS Uber puts out. Then you may get a real person to answer but they dont understand English or how to add & subtract. I wonder how much Uber and Lyft as they are no better make per year just in screwing riders and drivers. I sometimes wonder how much they pay support people to screw you out of money. Their support is definately awful. I think I sometimes spend more time trying to make them understand then its worth.
Happy to hear things went well. It gets easier with time. Unfortunately you will.passengers that will.drive you crazy. Take a deep breath and just get them to their destination. They are only with you a short time. Keep up the positive attitude it definately helps:)
Yes I do. He also takes Uber. Lol Politicians cannot be trusted anymore than Uber and Lyft.

Waters and candy dont bring tips in my experience. Be nice, respectful, friendly, and positive but dont let anyone take advantage of you. Know when to talk and when not to. Good morning then how was your day/night one word answers usually means they dont want to talk. Most people will hold conversation. Some wont say anything until trip is almost over. Some dont say a word other than hi and thank you. You think you are going to get 1 star because they are annoyed about something then a 20% tip pops up:) Try to read your passenger quickly. Stay away from politics, religion, sex, gender, anything you think may be offensive. If rider goes on about something but you may not agree agree anyway. Makes for an easier ride. Music make a few play list. Especially if doing bar pick ups. Music not only makes them happy but makes for good conversation. Puke bags if doing bar pick ups. Dont take unaccompanied minors, kids with no safety seat or booster seat, no cash rides. Those 3 things are really really important. I guarantee drunk guys will hit on you. Know how to get them to back off without pissing them off:) Make sure you know how to use navagation app. I love WAZE seems most drivers do. If not WAZE, Google Maps. Find the one that works best for you. Dont use sound on nav if you need to hear it get earpiece. Always confirm riders name but let them give you their name 1st, confirm destination before you leave. Keep your doors locked when you pull up gives you a few seconds to see who you are picking up, are the puking, filthy dirty, or are you getting a bad feeling. Trust your instincts something seems off leave and cancel. Roll down window confirm you got correct rider then unlock doors. Ask them to put seatbelts on most forget to put them on. Anyone giving you a hard time get to well lit area tell them to get out if they refuse grab your keys & phone get out call 911. Get dash cam very important. Never ever start a trip until your rider is confirmed and seatbelted in your car. Always keep 1/2 tank of gas in case you get a long ride. Make sure you have cash for tolls or ezpass or whatever you use in your cities and states near you. Make sure car is clean. If its your family car lysol or wipe it down when your shift is over. Dont use overpowering airfreshners someone will complain:) I keep chargers in my car for riders. I am sure you know most of this but hopefully something I posted helped. Once that first ride is over it gets a little less stressful:) Keep your ratings high but dont stress too much over them. You cant please everyone no matter what you do. Hope I covered everything. You can always ask questions. Good drivers on here with great tips. Remember this is your business do what makes you happy. Good luck. Stop back after your 1st day/night let me know how you made out. Nice to talk or vent with other drivers who know what your dealing with. Trust me family gets tired of hearing your stories:)
I told my 1st passenger. He was fine with it but maybe because it was 1.25 miles straight down the street for 3.45. Lol I ended up being his driver 5 more times:) After my 1st ride I went home for the night. Lol I was just happy I got that 1st ride out of the way as I was so nervous. It's not like we get any training. I made every rookie mistake out there and even had a few riders take advantage of my kindness. I survived though. Just came up on 2 yrs. Try to read your passenger before telling them. Some people out there will take the opportunity to try to get a free ride:) If they are nice and holding a conversation with you sure why not mention it. Many riders to this day still ask how long I've been doing it.
Any questions this is the place to ask:) A few veteran drivers that wont give you a rough time, give you BS answers, answer your questions with sarcasm, or full out lie to you. Everyone here is respectful, helpful, and nice unlike other forums or FB pages. If you need any help just ask:) Best of Luck. Let us know how your 1st ride went.
I see what Uber has done since Uber Pro rolled out here Aug 1st. I told you when I texted you. Knocking me off after 3rd decline. Making me pick my car everytime. I have used that car once in past 9 months. Last night i was knocked off after 2 and at one point after 1 decline. The ones I decline are pool, low rated pax or its the same pax because there are no drivers in the area. I have 3 trips one they screwed me out of surge, next one out if 20.00 surcharge on a NY trip this morning, and one the app froze and i couldnt start or end trip (i have screenshots of the text me and pax sent back and forth, I was on DF and was on the app so they know where I was). Thats over 50.00 fir these 3 trips. I sent messages in app. That was pointless because AI answered a few based on keywords and the real CS dont have a clue. Going to call this afternoon. If I have to drive to hub going to be pissed 80 min round trip and in crappy hood. Looks like I am going to plan B sooner than January. I have plan C also but my health is so crappy plan C will be rough. Lol These companies need to be put in their place. If I am Driving or not I hope I get to see the day they either fail altogether, another company or 2 shuts them down, or drivers are able to sue them for big bucks. They have a great idea, decent apps for the most part, and they totally screwed it up. Just so they can be more powerful and have more money. Like they really need more $ Dara could retire today and never have to work another day in his life. These guys want billions, notoriety, and power. Dara wants to be bigger than Amazon (but in transportation). He probably has Jeff Bezos poster on his bedroom walls. Probably does other things with JB posters but you will have to use your imagination cant post that here. Lol. I am so over the BS but some days are still not bad. Wildwood NJ us great on Friday and Saturday nights. Rates are better there, 90% of pax tip, still on multiplier surge especially between 1 & 330am. Did ok last night 4 hrs (3 trips) 2 long ones $213.00 (48.00 was tips).
Something that started out so well. Now as years go by its a mess. Uber and Lyft were a great idea for drivers and riders alike. As years went on both companies became more greedy and have done nothing but take away money and flexibility away from the drivers. So far riders have not been affected by either company. They still continue to keep rates low for riders. What will happen when the rates increase for the rider? At some point they will have to raise rates or they will never become profitable. Is it even possible for either company to make a profit? Will they have to merge to do so? I think they need to find new CEO's and get rid of a few of their minions. They need to stop spending so much money on salaries, move out of Silicon Valley, and scale back the spending on some of their other projects. Driverless cars, helicopters, submarines, space ships, and the other BS such as Balloons. Who knows what other nonsense are they spending money on. My concern is If AB5 passes in CA is Uber and Lyft going to retaliate? If so every other city/state will be afraid to go up against Uber and Lyft. Where will that leave drivers. It just really sucks that we cant get every driver to RALLY/STRIKE whatever you want to call it for 1 week. Until we get every driver on board Uber and Lyft will continue to screw drivers. At what point does a driver say enough is enough? I know if rates fall any lower in my market I will no longer drive unless its a busy night with lots of surges. That will be about 4X per year.
Yes its legal. I dont think Uber and Lyft care. I dont think they alough signs or cars wrapped for advertising. Had a rider a few night ago who said there last Uber had advertisements all over the car about some sexual thing. They were shocked, thought it was funny, but were somewhat uncomfortable.
Most of my pick ups are business men and women although I do bar pickups on occassion at the Jersey Shore. Business passengers want to work, make phone calls or take a nap on the way to airport. Some are up for conversation. Drunk passengers can be difficult enough let alone dealing with the cargo app. Then they would most likely eat it in my car and make a mess or puke. No thanks. If I was riding in a car the last thing I want to do is see advertisements. I buy things because I need them or want them not because some celebrity advertises them. I record all my shows very rare I watch live because I can FF through commercials. I get paid to drive people ftom point A to point B not to bother them with advertisements or cargo junk. This may be good in some markets, some people may like it. I just think its a nuisance. I dont like tipping signs, jars, boxes, etc... although some drivers swear by them. They make me uncomfortable and I would think many riders feel the same way. Of course these are just my opinions which dont mean much:)
It's only a first name that drivers see. We never see a last name. Once the trip is over the name is gone. If a driver is going to do something its usually done while on the ride. What could a driver really do with just a 1st name? When drivers complain about fake names its because the name is totally made up. All the avengers names have been used, the man, the boss, tothewindow, d!c%swa!!@wer, and other foul names. These are the names that we are complaining about. I am not going to pull up and say are you #####? If passengers are so concerned about drivers knowing their first name they may want to consider a different mode of transportation. If riders didnt want the real name whats wrong with using Bob, John, Karen, why use foul language or ridiculous names? How would you feel at 2am driving to pick d!@k$wallow%r up on a dark road when no other cars or people around? Riders want safety measures in place but it seems no one cares about the driver. Many drivers have been assulted, groped, and killed. Riders have our info in there app for years. Pic, name, license plate car make & model. It should go both ways drivers and riders need to feel and be safe.
