Had I been your driver no I wouldnt of been annoyed. As long as ypu ask politely it shouldnt be a problem. As soon as my rider says they are making a phone call (common sense) I automatically turn it down. There are many drivers pit there that dont know how to deal with the public. They have no idea what customer service means they feel.their car their rules. Although that may apply to many things turning down the radio shouldnt be a problem. Realize all drivers ate not like him. You got a rude one.

Uber gave Philadelphia drivers the destination mode back with no penalties. I made a whopping 20.77 by not using it  (never really used it before).

Every rider we pick up is a safety issue. We dont know what these riders are capable of doing especially under the influence. Do Uber and Lyft cate about drivers safety? Absolutely not. Lyft especially lets riders use fake names on their profile. Every rider should have to have a pic on their profile that we can see. Sometimes it comes up on Lyft.  Not that this helps much but better than what we get now. Uber and Lyft do not background check riders. I will not pick up any rider with a fake name or in another language.  Few weeks ago got this request. Pinged me 3X over 20 minutes declined 3X. Idiot probably windering why its taking so long to have his request accepted. Its also probably a minor or a jerk.

This is a because of the girl from NJ getting killed in SC. It's not Uber or Lyft starting this. It's the girls friend. Drivers everywhere are pissed most refusing to give out their name first. I had 2 riders last weekend ask me my name. I told them to go to back of car and look at my plate. I then asked them to look at their app. Is your Uber showing up on the map at this location, what is the make and model of the car? They looked and answered. I then said whats your name they answered. I gave my name then and only then. I asked if 123 Sesame St was their destination they confirmed and off we went. The 2 rides were young 20 something women who didnt have a clue about anything I asked them. These people sign on order ride and jump in car that approaches them first. They never read TOS or looked at app after ordering. I've been educating riders since that girl passed away. Not my job but just want everyone to be safe. I cant tell you how many times riders have approached me thinking I am their Uber. When i ask their drivers name and car info I get Mike white ford focus. I am a female with black honda pilot. This is how uneducated about ride share, lazy, or drunk these riders are.  No where in the app or online does it say we have to say our name first.

  • This is what happened to me last night while driving. No notice from Uber to driver or rider. Neither of us knew anything about it. It didnt work anyway. Thankfully rider wasnt mad at me. I couldnt start trip without Code but once at destination I was able to start and end it and get my fare. Customer Service had no idea about any of it.  So rediculous again Uber makes drivers look like idiots.

  • Not passing judgment. I would even take care of or help someone after they had the abortion. I would pick them up at the clinic afterwards. Just not going to participate in getting it done. I've posted below to explain. Also what i dont understand is what the police are going to do or why they would get involved. Driver shouldn't of said what he said because of course he should keep his opinions, religions, and beliefs to himself. Was just saying we should not be forced to take a ride that we feel is unsafe or take a ride that is against our Religious beliefs as we have a right in this country of religious freedom. Yes abortion it legal, yes she has the rright to get one. I just dont want to participate. not asking anyone to side with me, not trying to convince anyone to share my beliefs or change their beliefs . Not asking if you are pro choice or pro life.

  • I did not post this to get into a discussion about abortion rights or what I  believe in or anyone else  believes in. It just so happened the article was about abortion. My point I was trying to make was we are independent contractors. We choose to run our business how we want to run it. Obviously there may be some consequences on some of your choices but that's on  each individual driver. My car my rules start when I get the ping. Do i want that ride or not? If i choose to take it then that rider needs to be respectful, and not distructive or abusive.  I respect and i am polite to every rider who steps into my car. Dont break anything, be respectful of me & my car, relax, make yourself comfortable. They are my  my rules. I will do just about anything they ask as long as its not hurting anyone or breaking any laws. If your pet needs to be rushed to hospital jump in lets go. Rider sick and wants to go to hospital sure jump on in. Just so you are aware you should be calling rescue as they are trained if something happens to you on the way. I am friendly, caring, and empathetic. I will make you comfortable, try to accomodate if you need me to do something,  but if you want to hurt someone, commit a crime, or get an abortion sorry cant help you. Its my religion and what I strongly believe in.  I also wont pick you up if your rating is below a 4.5, you have a fake name in the app such as "dick swallower", yes got that onev3 weeks ago, feel you pose a threat, i feel unsafe.

  • The baby is dead so that is hardly considered an abortion. It is a miscarriage. Big difference. Him declining to take her hardly put her at risk. Ubers are not ambulances, rescue squad, etc. If you have a medical emergency you shouldn't  be taking an Uber.  Mormon drivers not taking to bars is a hell of big difference. Actually if their  beliefs were that strong about alcohol may be a good idea not driving weekend nights. Of course you shouldn't decline gay people but yet again big difference in gay people and the topic. My post was not about abortion rights. It was about being forced to take rides. If you feel uncomfortable, unsafe we can refuse a ride. As a citizens of the US i have religious freedoms. In my religion its against that religion to participate in abortions. So no I am not taking a person to get one. That is my right to practice my religion. For your 2 examples big difference in scenarios. Mormon religion doesnt say dont drive drunk people. If it does dont drive weekends. As far as gay people although some religions dont agree with it I am not aware of any that states you have to stay away from gay people or you cant drive gay people. Catholic school religion states "you cannot have abortion or participate in one".

  • Didnt say it was my business. The driver shouldn't of said what he said, agreed.  What other people do is their business not mine but as a catholic I dont believe in abortion or assisting in one. I want no parts in  helping.

  • We seem to be losing some of our freedom everyday. This isnt just referring to just rideshare. We cant say anything anymore as it may "offend" someone, we are supposed to use the "correct pronouns" or  its considered criminal behavior (yes there are groups/people out there that want laws passed for it to be considered criminal behavior if you dont use the correct pronouns), what happened to freedom of Religion (if you are religiously and morally against abortion why should you have to participate)?  If it was against this drivers religion or beliefs why should they have to drive rider to the abortion clinic? We are independent contractors. We own or make payments on our cars. It is our business, our car our rules. Granted if we do or dont do certain things we can be deactivated but now we have to go against our religion and/or our beliefs. BULLSHIT!!!  My car was paid for by me, i pay for gas, i maintain it, clean it, etc no  ignorant self entitled a##hole is going to force me to take them anywhere I dont want to go. These young adults need to grow up and realize everybody dont have to cater to them, do what they want you to do, or believe in what they believe, or agree with their choices. I've seen in other forums where riders think we should not be allowed to smoke in our cars (yes not a good idea unless you have good air freshner or dont mind a low rating) but where do these self entitled idiots get off saying what we can and cant do in something we pay for and own? She called the police. FOR WHAT? Boo hoo my Uber driver wouldnt take me to the abortion clinic. SERIOUSLY??? Uber deactivated the guy. This is total bullshit. You can get an Uber to an abortion clinic but cant take one to get birth control.

  • I agree. Riders need to be educated. Trying to post on whatever I can.

  • Exactly. A politician in SC wants to pass a bill thst dtivers must have sign on car. Not going to work. There are so many people selling Lyft and Uber light up signs on FB, EBay, Amazon, etc...  I feel they are doung this to placate the parents. Act like they care. Anyone can make these signs, anyone can sell them, and anyone can buy them. Riders need to start checking what the color, make, model, license plate, and pic match their app. Watch our car pull up on app. Maybe Uber and Lyft can text code to both driver and rider once driver pulls up make sure codes match. Give drivers ID or Certificate with raised seal to put on dash. Something. These signs will not prevent  someone from getting in wrong Uber or a non Uber.

  • As long as a rider isnt rude, disrespectful, makes a mess, or damages my car I could careless what they do. Are some of the conversations they have annoying? Of course. Who cares they are in your car for a short time. Most people who are on their phones are people I want no parts of having  a conversation with anyway. Riders are paying for the time they are in your car shouldnt they be able to choose how they spend that time? Maybe they dont want to have a conversation with "a creepy Uber driver" because there are some out there. You are dealing with the public you take the good rides with the bad. You need to be Friendly, calm, and patient.

2 weeks ago in  Declining Long Distance Short Rides

Don't know:) I took one look at that request and said "OH HELL NO,  THEY'RE OUT OF THEIR F@#KING MINDS".  Didn't realize I had my window down and I hear a voice ouside my car say "Mom, that lady is yelling at herself". I burst out laughing at that point. To which I got a dirty look. I screenshot it and clicked DECLINE. It came back to me 3X over 15 min. I assume they waited no less than 30 min for a pick up. Someone may have needed 1 more trip to finish quest, an unsuspecting newbie, or driver didnt notice the rating. There would have to be a huge surge for me to pick up that rider or a big bonus. I was only sitting  maybe 250' from rider but it was dark and  too many people were waiting for rides so I couldnt tell which person it was.

  • Pic is bigger for rider to see. Although riders comain pics dont look like drivers they look like they are 10yrs younger than driver. Stickers are useless. License ate may be on back but but rider can still check it. The extra 10 secs it takes may save their lives. Maybe Uber and Lyft should send driver a raised seal certificate with the make, model, color, plate, driver first name,  and pic or a small license sized ID to place on dash.

2 weeks ago in  Declining Long Distance Short Rides

No unfortunately that isnt how it works. When rider request a ride it goes to nearest driver ratings are not even a consideration. Ratings give Uber a reason to deactivate drivers. A rider rating doesnt matter to Uber.  It could be 4.2 (lowest I've received on ride request) that rider will still continue on platform ordering rides. However he will be waiting for awhile most times as most drivers will decline them. The night I got their request it came back to me 3X over a 12 min period. They were obviously not having much luck in getting a driver to accept.

Since Uber Pro has come out the riders who reach Diamond Status are offered highly rated drivers. My question has been, will these Diamond status riders wait longer for a highly rated driver? Here in Philly drivers average rating is 4.80. A recent rider of mine who reached Diamond Status explained what her choices are when she requests a ride. The day I got her I was 20 min away.

High rated driver will take 20 min for pick up or accept closest driver. She chose high rated (4.95) as in her area that was normal wait time for driver to get to her anyway. Since I was 20 min away though it then cost her an additional $9.79 for me to get her for long pick up fee. I was headed in that vicinity anyway and it was a long trip 45+ min.  As it turned out she was headed 20 min from my home and she was my last trip of the day:).Some days the stars align:)

  • Yes definately planned. I think he was out looking to get a female possibly to rape them or kill them or both. I dont think it was sn accident. Even if he pulled up and said he was her driver the worst that couldve happened was she said no your not and he would just move on to the next female outside a bar.

Like I explained in other comment. I have people all the time ask if I am their Uber. When I ask who they are waiting for the cars dont match and sometimes their driver is male. They dont look at anything other than their request was accepted. This frequently happens with young people and outside bars. Some of the stories these young people tell me i cant decide if they are really stupid, naive, or both. They are definately careless. Hope this wakes a few up. Uber and Lyft can implement something where we have an ID or a Certificate with raised Seal (so cant be duplicated) posted on our dash.

  • I assume he was just out looking seen her alone looking at her phone and assumed she was waiting for Uber. All he had to do was pull up and these naive young girls just jump in. Unfortunately he really didnt have to say a word.  I have people ask me all the time if I am their Uber and I dont have the signs on my car. When you are driving alone and slow in areas that uber pick up at frequently any car that stops or drives slow they assume you are an Uber. I have people ask and Ill ask name.  When they say a different name I'll say well is your Uber a Black Honda Pilot with a female driver. They look at their phone and say "no white mazda with male driver". Yes that far off because all they do is order it and dont look at anything else.

Maybe he set out just to pick up  a female see if he could get anywhere with her. She turned him down and things went bad from there. Maybe he just went to rape her and they went bad. The area she was found in was  not an area that was well known. A rider I spoke with last night told me 2 guys hunting or something found her. The way he made it sound sorta a freak accident they even found her. So who knows maybe was something he planned. She wasnt buried very well. He probably didnt think anyonevwould find her for awhile if ever.  Uber and Lyft should send emails or notices to riders reminding them to check before you get in one. I have young female riders all the time how they get in Ubers really drunk by themselves and pass out. It also shouldnt be legal to sell Uber and Lyft trade dress. As of now anyone can make signs, lights, etc... and sell it. I am surprised Uber and Lyft havent trademarked their names. Although this guy may not even had a placard on his car. As a driver not much I can do other then to educate my riders to check before they get in cars. Still depends on them to listen and actually do it. Maybe Uber and Lyft should give drivers an ID card sorta like a license that we need to put on our dash or show rider. This is just awful for the parents, family, and friends. A young beautiful woman dead. I hope they fry the bastard.

  • Riders please check your app. If it says a Black Pilot is picking you up. Make sure its a black Pilot, make sure your driver matches pic, match license plate. I get that may take an extra minute but had this young woman did it her family wouldnt be planning her funeral and burying her in a few days. In my experience riders under 35 pay no attention to who is picking them up. I've had to text rider what kind of vehicle I am in & the color. I shouldnt have to its on your app. In 2000 rides I have had 2 riders check my license plate. I have 2 vehicles on platform very different from one another. Blue Ford Focus and Black Honda Pilot. I have forgotten to switch my vehicle in the app when i switch vehicles. One night I picked up 7 riders. First 6 were female it wasnt until my 7th rider mentioned the app said a blue car was to pick him up. I thanked him for saying something and switched it but we were almost done the ride when he said something.

You make sure the vehicle make and model match

    License plate matches

Driver profile pic looks like the driver

This happened to me quite a few times. This particular night  I get a request for Uber X I can seat 4 safely. I pull up there are 3 people they say we are waiting for one more. I am paying no attention to back seat they say ok we are good I start trip get 5  blocks from pick up look in rear view mirror I have 4 in back 1 in front. So what do I do? Do I say something? Do I end trip there and boot them out? I am sure you are all saying I would of. Lol There is 5 of them one of me, oh forgot to mention I am not in a very good neighborhood. Do I call police? I probably won't get past 91 before one of them can take my phone and if I can connect with 911 chances are police will not be there before I am beaten and my car is on cinder blocks. So I take my time ride the right lane nice and slow, stay away from traffic. We get to destination still in another crappy hood. I quickly end trip. The person they are meeting doesn't answer their call so they are not moving out of my car. Uh hello trips over. So they continue to sit in my car for 10 min deciding what to do. Fnally I get another rider so  I find my voice and get the courage to say "I got to go" . Still another 2 min. go by. Finally guy comes out and they get their stuff out of my trunk and go on their way. Now I pull up with doors locked and don't unlock until I know how many are getting in my car. I've learned quite a few lessons driving for Uber this past year.

  • I've picked up strippers twice. One stripper had a fit & started screaming at me because I didnt pick her up at stripper enterance. The app put me in front of the place. I had never been there before. She called me screaming so I drive around to where she told me but there were people all over plus 2 entrances/exits so I ask the first female I see if she was my passenger. She ignores me then I see Mr. Big and Beefy with the tight muscle head shirt on wave me over. She opens door starts screaming why didnt you come here 1st & why were you talking to those people? I try to explain that the pick up location put me up front and what people are you talking about? She screams the people in the car. I reply "what people, what car" . She screams again the people in the car. I am getting annoyed now, because she hasnt stopped screaming at me and what people in what car not a clue who she was referring to. I should've left when I was eligible for cancel fee. We drive a mile GPS says make left turn screaming stripper barks order i will tell you where to go. We go another mile another barking order "pull into that gas station I need something". She needed something all right some manners or a foot up her ass. I pull in to this gas station that is packed has a line of cars to get in (will explain the line of cars at 3am at a gas station another time). I finally get into lot she gets out and I plot my escape. Why should I take her screaming, order barking ass anywhere else they dont pay me enough for this? I put the car in drive ready to pull out and my guilty conscience kicks in. Its 3am you cant do that. Then the  little devil on my shoulder says go for it. Good conscience won I stayed but when she got back in I had a little talk with her. By the time i dropped her off she was happy. So happy when she got out she said "i am going to give you 5 stars". I wanted to reply "stick your 5 stars so far up (that thing you shake for money)that they shoot out of your mouth and hand over some of those bills you made tonight.  She was out right rude and bossy.

The 2nd stripper I picked up didnt yell at me but she also barked orders. Wont get into much detail as I just wrote a book about stripper #1. Her barking orders were hello as she entered car  order #1"put this radio station on, order #2 turn volumn up ill tell you when to stop" #3 dont speak to me while music is on #4 put the heat up. No please no thank you ànd you guessed it no tip. Last but not least we pull up to destination my app shows end trip you've arrived i end it wait for her to get the hell out. But she needs to bark 1 more order #5 "I've never been here before just sit here until I can find my friend then you can leave". Must be a stripper thing to bark orders and not tip. These 2 were in my first month of driving they taught me a few things that night.  No, one of those things was not how to work a stripper pole. Thanks for sharing R Paulson. Would love to here more stories.

  • This time I pick up 3 men in there 30's from India at a strip club in Bensalem PA. They get in dont seem really intoxicated. We have a coversation then they are talking amongst themselves. I look at GPS. Its putting me on PA Turnpike. Now where ever I get off I am not going to know where I am so obviously relying on GPS completely. Go up a few exists get off. Its dark as hell. I swear Bucks County suburbs doesnt like or is too cheap to put up street lights. Everything is so dark you see nothing  when you look behind you. At this times roads are not only dark but no traffic around. The guys start speaking in their language now, up to this point their conversations were all English even to each other. Before I go further I was under impression destination was one of their homes. Now I have to turn into a dark business complex. Everything closed no one around.  My mind thinks they are plotting to hack me up into little pieces lol This is just too shady. No houses, everything dark, no people, no cars. I am so ready to turn around at this point but had no idea where I could go or what i would say to them about turning around. Hearts pounding, nervous. Drive about .5 mile and up on my right was a Hotel. Never so grateful to see one. This was my 2nd experience on a ride that really scared me being a female driver. I think after all my stripper, strip club experiences (as I have 2 other time I had a pick up) I need to stay away from those places. Those rides are either miserable, scarey  or just plain strange. Do you think Uber would deactivate me for not driving to or picking up from those places? Lol Yes definately.

7 months ago in  Can you select the gender of the operator?

I think you should be able to. I have had a few riders who are happy to see a woman driver. I even had a male who said he would rather have a woman because a male driver may be able to over power a male rider. Some of these young girls pass out from drinking. Some are so drunk that a male driver could do something and she probably wouldnt remember. If these women who got raped had a female than the rape would've never happened. Young women tell me all the time some of their male drivers hit on them  some are just creepy make them feel uncomfortable. One young woman said her driver bought her cigs alcohol, and tried to kiss her after ride was over. Women tend not to be criminals, rapist, etc. I would think they wouldnt be hitting on male passengers to the point that the msle rider is uncomfortable. Unfortunately these women who have had these issues dont report driver because they are afraid he will come back to their house.

2 months ago in  Does Uber charge a fee for scheduled rides?

Lilly, Can you please clarify or correct me if I am wrong as I dont want to be giving my riders wrong info. If you schedule a ride more than 60 min. in advance your fare is locked in. If you schedule a ride in less than 60 min. in advance Uber gives you an estimate. Then when you are matched with a driver fare could increase if there is a surge in your area. Thank you.
