5 years ago in  Should UpFront fares go both ways?

I would love it if Uber and Lyft added a "no way do I want to drive to that city" filter:) I end up in Pa, NJ, and NYC. When in NJ and the 45+ pops up its a gamble. Will I end up in NYC. I will go to any other city and state however I HATE NY especially the city. I dont want to drive in the city, JFK, or La Guardia unless its a Sunday night between 12am & 4am (it's usually a ghost town then, not much traffic in the city). Not only can we not pick up any passengers but it takes 2/3 hrs to get the hell oit of there (no traffic 45/60 min. Tired of making $6 per hr for those crap trips. Just saying most NYC cab drivers (probably ride share drivers also) are rude, self entitled, and cant drive for sh!+ (unless its because they are rude & dont care). No wonder when I apply for Insurance in PA they ask if you drive in NJ & NY. NJ drivers are not much better:) Also just saying if we cant pick up riders in NY then NY drivers shouldnt be allowed to pick up in other states. Set DNDF (do not drive filter) set to NYC:)

  • No I am good it was before I started.  I remember reading simething just couldnt remember when it happened and if they got sued. I got entered into a class action suit against them for sending text. I got notified and a year later got a 125.00 check in the mail.

  • Was Uber sued for the breach? Capital One just reported a breach from back in March, 4 mths ago. Just coming out now. Iver 100M credit applications dating back to 2005. People's credit limit, social security numbers, everything. Capitol One saying "they doubt any of the info was used". Happy they can make that assumption. They did get the guy that did it though. Still he just sat on the info for months and did nothing with it. BS! They will pay out the class action suit that will surely happen, offer some free credit protection, and move on without  care in the world. Meanwhile we are left to deal with the fall out. Technology is great but it leaves us open for all of our personal info to fall in the wrong hands.

  • Unfortunately as vigilant as we are most companies dont do enough to protect our information. The information then gets sold. I've been involved in 5 data breaches in past year. One email address compromised and 2 passwords. One password isn't even mine so who knows who used my info. An old paypal I had was hacked and language was changed. I cant even read wth it says. Thankfully it had an old bank account, address, and last name attached to it. Until these companies protect our info better we are somewhat screwed. The companies the breaches happened at were not small companies. Experian, Quest Diagnostics (lab where they run your blood work), Quora, and I cant even remember the others. I just got a notice from Credit Karma about 5 other breaches I still have to look into. Its a good thing I've lost my mac card 3X in past year, my number keeps changing with new card:) After I get new card I find the old one. Lol

  • What I dont get is most of these scams involve Uber giving you something. That is first sign something isnt right. The IRS and a few other scams ask you to buy gift cards. Why in the hell would they ask you to buy gift cards to pay off a tax debt or anything else? Google play cards and I Tunes, thats the most rediculous thing I ever heard. That is what makes me wonder how these people fall for these scams. Not only that the IRS would know your address or at least know where to find you. If there was a warrant out they wouldnt call you and tell you that. These scams are all over the internet. You tubers scam the scammers. How do people not see these things? I kind of understand the elderly falling for it in some instances but still never give out info and look into before you pay out. Good tips Chris. I never answer a call unless I recognize the number. If its important they will leave a message. T Mobile also has "scam likely" if its those robo calls there system picks it up and caller ID says "scam likely". It's rare anymore I get those calls as T Mobile has added other protection to intercept calls before we get them.

  • At least this man didnt fall for it. So many others would. Like Uber would do anything nice for you. Thst would've been my first clue. Unfortunately there will be people who fall for it. I had 2 separate callers at different times call me saying they were from Uber. They one cslled me 7X in a 15 min period with rider in car. Rider asked if I needed to answer as it seemed important. I ignored the calls. After dropping off rider I had 4 voicemails from the caller claiming to be from Uber to address an issue. Said he would follow up with email. No email and no number to call him back. Uber claims no one called me. Of course they didnt seem to care. Would make a note on my account. The other one same thing only he called once. They are getting our info from somewhere. Didnt Uber have a data breach a few years back? Maybe our info was sold who knows.

  • Uber and Lyft advertised you could make good money (at one time yes you could). They still claim you can make money. They are just too funny. Actually you still can in some markets but probably not for long.

What other drivers said in their post and a few add ons.

Most new drivers don't grasp these things until they see it for themselves:

Many miles on your car/where and tear/ maintenance

How much you spend on gas now that prices increased

Rate cuts, bonus, surges, promotions cut or gone

How bad a drunk rider can be, a self entitled rider, violent riders, and the list goes on.

That you cant just jump in your car, turn on the app just anywhere and unicorn trips ping your phone all day

You actually have to get to know your market, research it, trial and error to find those spots you need to sit in. You actually have to figure things out or have a friend who feeds you all this. Like anything else it takes some time to get good at it unless you were a taxi driver:)

You just cant sit in an airport queue, wait 2 hrs for each ride all the time and expect to make big bucks

You may have to drive 4 hrs in morning very early, 4 hrs at night very late

Its can be lonely on the road at times no co workers to vent to:)  Find one is my suggestion makes life easier.

Its not as easy as everyone thinks it is. Not everyone has the personality or patience for this.

You cant just jump in your car, turn the app on, and drive aimlessly with no plan and no knowledge of your market. Well there maybe a few people in a really good market thats busy and rates are still good. If ypu know one let me know:)

I get you font want to call the cops but its just weird that she is doing this. Go around the damn block or somewhere close. You never know she could be a problem. I would call the police dont mention anything about Uber just say she keeps popping up at your house, supermarket, etc...  you are uncomfortable as you dont know her  if it comes up you both drive play dumb just say "i never connected it to that". Its really weird that she stays so close to you. Again go around the block. There are 2 of you your house isnt the "it spot" that Uber only sends request there:) You have kids dont take any chances. If she was a reasonable adult she wouldve approached you and said " hey just started driving noticed you drive to was wondering if you had good spots" whatever you get my point. She went as far as to watch rider app and follow you sorry but that screams possible stalker or crazy. At the very least its definately odd. Better safe than sorry too many sick people out there. Worse case scenario she spills to cops that she was just trying to get rides. Keep close watch on her. If you have dash cam keep it in her direction if in car just sitting. I would keep track of times, dates, and places. It seems extreme but until you know her motive for sure dont take those chances. People are capable of evil crap nowadays. She lies to riders all ready. If you can find out her name do some digging on her.  Fb, twitter whatever. Just think she went through alot of trouble for a few uber rides. Not trying to scare you but unfortunately we live in crazy world with crazy people capable of anything and everything. Just be careful see what you can find out first at the very least. Dont just ignore it. I still think you should mention to police. I assume you live in small town? Give police something to do:) Again not trying to scare you or make you paranoid but I'll say it again. Better safe than sorry. Approx how long has she been driving?

  • If you go into my trips you able to tip the driver multiple times up to a month. Most people probably just open it to request a ride not to look at their trip history. Once ride is over they probably dont even look at it unless of course they want to complain about something:)  I would think riders would want to make sure driver ended trip and correct amount was charged. Guess they dont care to check either one. If they did they woukd see tip option.

I dont think its against the TOS. We are IC's we can come and go where we please. No law or rules where we sit and wait. However if you feel unsafe, threatened, or stalked you should contact the police. How does she know you drive for Uber and where you live? Do you know her personally? This sucks I get it but unless she does something physical or threatening I dont think there is anything you can do. It is annoying, aggravating, and a little creepy. She should find her own area, research her market, etc... but instead she chooses to be lazy. I dont put the Uber or Lyft stickers on my car unless I absolutely have to. Not for your exact issue but I just prefer people dont know what I am doing. I think your only option is the police. Dont mention she is there to steal rides or find out where to drive as police will think its on the petty side (not saying it is). Inform them you keep seeing this woman show up everywhere you go . You are uncomfortable and afraid she may be up to something. Dont mention you drive for rideshare unless they were to come right out and ask that question. Act as though you feel she is some possible crazy lady stalking you. Try avoiding bringing up Lyft/Uber driving, stealing rides, etc...  I hope she goes awsy and leaves you alone.  Let us know how you make out. This is just weird I would be somewhat concerned if I had someone go to that extreme. How old is she?

    Best of luck. Be careful!

  • I've done it like the others said it logs me off after 3 missed pings. One night it did stay on for 3/4 hrs guess I didnt get 3 pings. When it did finally pinged I jumped up and grsbbed my phone accidentally accepting the ride. That was a WTH moment. I was so confused as to why I was in bed accepting request. Obviously when I became more awake, realized what I did I cancelled.

5 years ago in  Woman gives birth in back of taxi. Driver is cool.

OMG. Driver was pretty calm but it was funny listening to him. He should get a good tip. Wonder if he filed cleaning fee with Uber? He did ask for money for his car to be cleaned up. I think that would've been my last thought. Great story.

5 years ago in  New Driver Scam - Don't hand your phone to your driver!

Some of the scams people fall for truly amazes me. IRS one where they call and say there is a warrant for your arrest. Why didnt they just come get you they know where you live, why are they warning you, do you owe taxes probably not so why would you believe them? Lastly they tell you to go to the store and pay them with gift cards. WTH how do people believe this crap? In this case lets say lady never took Uber before. Why would the driver need your phone? If there is a mistake in the navagation or route what in the hell would that have to do with her phone? I dont agree with what the driver did he is a total jerk and needs to be deactivated. People need to wake up. Do you hand your wallet over to someone? Of course not. Why would you hand your phone to anyone? Your whole life is in there. Cant teach common sense.

5 years ago in  New Driver Scam - Don't hand your phone to your driver!

There are so many scams going around. It does make me wonder about peoples thought process. Drivers are handing over their info to scammers because they are told they won a prize or bonus. Why do people fall for these things? Just like this one. What would make you hand your phone to a driver? There is nothing in TOS or anywhere in the platform that says a driver needs access to your phone. I cant think why as a passenger a driver would need my phone for any reason. Your phone is like your wallet with all your personal and financial info on it. Dont give it to anyone for any reason. I've had passengers that didnt know how to change the destination, what to do with ratings, and tip. I will not under any circumstances touch a passengers phone. People need to read the TOS to know what to expect, how to work the app. Yes it could've been this riders first time they ordered an Uber but know what to expect. Educate yourself. As for that driver what a total scumbag. These are the drivers that need to be deactivated. It sucks what happened to this woman and hopefully she doesnt make that mistake again.

  • I am the last person to defend Uber. Let's face it Uber doesnt do much for anyone to want to defend them. They have been shady since the beginning and in some instances an awful company (data breaches, ordering Lyft's & then cancelling them, sexist, and the list goes on. I know many drivers blame Uber for the lack of tipping by riders. I believe Uber may have caused & maybe still cause a few riders not to tip. However Uber has allowed tipping for a little over 2 yrs now. In the 2 yrs I've been driving I've only ever heard 2 riders think that tipping wasnt allowed. It is in many articles, forums, you tube videos, etc... Drivers talk about it all the time, its on signs in some drivers cars, there are tipping jars, buckets, in other drivers cars. I have only used Uber once and yes I tipped driver 10.00 cash & gave him 5 stars for a 10 min ride.  Even though he drove me past my destination & didnt understand English for me to explain we passed my destination. He got me there safely, car was clean, and he was polite. He didnt ruin my day by passing my destination by 2 blocks and it wasnt the end of the world. Can you imagine if every person who took Uber or Lyft was judged on how well they did their job by people giving them stars? Can you imagine those people being fired simply because someone was in a pissy mood or just felt like they wanted something for free so they made up some BS story? Your job would be more annoying more stressful and just an awful place to be. Ok got off the tipping part sorry. I did order about 8 Ubers for my daughter in law and 1 for my daughter on my account. I just want to mention I threatened them with bodily harm if they got less than 5 stars on my rider account. When the ride is over those 5 stars pop up and ask rider to rate driver. As soon as you rate the tipping option pops up. Not only does it pop up nice & big but in bright royal blue next to the list of trips the rider has taken is the option to tip for 1 MONTH after the ride. There is also an option to tip again. I have tried it up to 3X. All 3X driver received that tip. Sorry but didnt feel the need to put any more money out:) Driver probably thought I was crazy but didnt mind getting 3 tips. With that being said there may be 10% of riders who still think there is no need to tip. The rest either tip, feel the driver dont deserve it, dont tip anyine at all no matter what, visiting from another country, or are just cheap. Uber makes it plain as day for 1 month to be able to tip driver. Dont let riders make you think otherwise. I think my grandpop probably wasnt a frequent Uber rider. Just my opinion. You all know I have many:) 😊

  • I didnt even address the killing of pedestrians. The answers no i am not getting in 1st because of things nasty people do and their questionable hygeine or lack of. 2nd because it may kill me or someone else. 3rd since you mentioned the braking thing no thanks. Can you sit in the front seat of those things? If and when there is no driver can you sit in drivers seat as a rider? It will be a cold day in hell or I will have to have dementia or alzheimers before I take one:) Especially if Uber or Lyft is involved they dont care if they kill someone.

  • 30/40% average. I get at least 1 day out of a 5 day week that I get 50/60%. Last week.had 2 days all but 1 rider tipped. Since Dec 31, 2018 I have 1 day where I received no tips but only had 2 riders (long trips)that day. Most will tip 20%. Once in awhile I get $10/$20 cash. I used to get more cash tips but seens like most people are tipping in the app. I have no complaints about that but me personally I tip cash. If I order dinner & use my card  I try to always make sure I have cash. In a resturant if I use my card I try to always bring cash. Why let Uncle Sam take your $ or have the waiter/delivery person lose money to taxes. Government gets enough of our hard earned $. I know putting tip on your card is easier and more convenient but I prefer giving cash. I have my card on me at all times but never leave home without some cash on me.
