A 45 miles will take 45~60 minutes to drive. Such a trip should be about $55 to 70 in most areas. This is without considering for surge pricing which can raise the fare during busy periods.

Slightly dated but it makes some good arguments. These points continue to be discussed.

I am all for new technologies and am a huge early adopter, but I do hope they get the self-driving thing right first. :)
This does not quite address your question, but there are newer services that do allow you to select a driver/car. Like Bid2Ride for example or potentially a more traditional limo services.
Puppies. Mariachia band.
or get a better star rating.
This obviously depends on the expectation. With UberBlack, people usually expect it, but with a UberX, perhaps not. (or expect it less)
The change caused by the rideshare services is inevitable, and they are here to stay. I think everyone admits that. Many in the taxi industry were counting on the government to step in, not to block Uber and Lyft, but to bring some regulations and rules to put into place. Most of them were trying to hold out long enough for these measures to be put into place. Can they hold out long enough? Boston...Austin..Seattle... Still backgrounds, but I think the days are numbered.
Ultimately, the industry will overcome the conflicts and eventually stable itself. Drivers and companies will adjust and be ok... Of course, those who had invested in medallions, owned and followed the taxi regulations of the past may be facing more adjustments (and negative impacts) more than others.

I have a serious problem with this comment, especially after last night's epic win.

See those individual wrappings? Each one includes a human being.
That's how humans are birthed and delivered in the future.
No, LOL!!
but I think this is doable. Imagine working in one of your rooms, on a desk, laptop, Internet. ...then you just step out at certain times to be at a grocery store or a campsite.
The future is bright indeed.
